Dr. Tamikia Greene-Chavis, Interim Principal

Highlight #1

Our scholars truly outdid themselves in the Black History Program with this year's theme, "Rhythm of Our Roots." From a powerful monologue to the high-energy dancing and precision stepping, every performance honored the deep cultural heartbeat of Black history. The "Ode to the Divine 9," paid tribute to the legacy and leadership of the Black Greek Letter Organizations. The cafeteria stage was transformed into a vibrant celebration of heritage, soul, and history. It was standing room only, and the energy in the room was absolutely electric!

Highlight #2

Campus Support Team (CST) meetings are occurring to ensure every scholar has the tools they need to succeed. These meetings are a space for collaboration, problem-solving, and the alignment of resources to support both student growth and teacher success. Holistic Student Support: We look at the "whole child," analyzing academic data alongside behavioral and social-emotional needs to ensure every scholar has a clear path to success. Strategic Alignment: We coordinate our internal resources—from interventionists and counselors to administration—to ensure our support is consistent, timely, and effective.

Hitchcock High School

Donette L Line, Principal

Highlight #1

The game the entire season rested on: February 24 vs. Fairfield. After three plus years of heartbreaking playoff losses to this specific rival, the Lady Bulldogs finally claimed their revenge. It was a masterclass in grit. Maci and V’Asia were defensive walls with big steals, while Kimora, Sy’liah, and Sookie dominated the glass and sank huge shots from behind the arc. This win wasn't just a victory; it was the spark that ignited our run to State. (Stay tuned for the championship photo at the next board meeting!)

Highlight #2

As Ms. Chester and I visit our classrooms, we are prioritizing student engagement as a key focus area for Hitchcock High School. We are particularly inspired by the dynamic atmosphere in Mr. Carter’s Chemistry class, where students are always up and moving—mixing compounds, tracking data, and working together to discover results. Our goal is to empower every teacher to create similarly engaging spaces where student curiosity leads the way. A special thank you to Mr. Carter for demonstrating how a teacher's passion can truly ignite a classroom.

January 2026

Academics- Dr. Keri Launius

We have solidified our foundation for the spring by successfully navigating complex state compliance requirements, including TEC §31.1011 certifications and comprehensive accommodations verification. This preparation is bolstered by our selection for the Region 4 Accelerated Learning Pilot at Stewart Elementary, which will provide intensive, research-based coaching and live tutorials to drive student achievement in Math and Literacy. Our team received RBIS training, ensuring the continuation of the implementation of our Bluebonnet curriculum across the district.

Accountability & Assessment- Megan Stall

The TEA RLA Field Tests were successfully administered, STAAR security training was completed. Our benchmark assessments were built in Cambium. The high school successfully completed their benchmark testing. My instructional focus included leading science PLCs, training 2nd-grade teachers on Eduphoria data, and assisting the Academic Team in creating the 2026 Summer School plan. Finally, I represented the district at Region 4 to stay current on the latest state accountability and testing coordinator requirements.

Athletics - Craig Smith

The Lady Bulldogs- who finished the 2025-2026 season with a overall record and a perfect 10-0 record as District 24-3A champs- won not only the first UIL girls basketball state championship in Hitchcock’s history, but also the first Galveston County’s history. Not only winning in 3A the lady Bulldogs also won the Clear Creek ISD tournament which they beat Hightower and Shadow Creek who went on to play for the Region 3 6A final in the playoffs. Congratulations to the Lady Bulldogs.

Child Nutrition - Gina Hengst

The students are becoming more inquisitive about food items and why we are required to serve them, thus allowing more interactions and teaching moments between staff and students. We hosted our first full meeting of the Menu Advisory Committee at HHS and CMS. Many ideas and much insight was shared between parties. With more new menu items and continued focus on visual tray appeal, meal counts continue to show increase at Breakfast & Lunch.

Communications - Jaree Hefner

Throughout February, I supported districtwide communications by promoting and attending a wide range of campus events and activities across Hitchcock ISD. This included coverage of fine arts performances, athletic competitions, academic milestones, and family engagement opportunities such as the HHS Blood Drive, Seussical Musical performances, and district athletic events. I also coordinated recognition campaigns for National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day and campus Black History Month program promotions, while continuing to develop graphics, social media content, and messaging that highlight student success and strengthen community engagement across the district.

Curriculum - Sarah Saenz

This month we have been focusing on improving student writing. A strong emphasis was placed on improving student writing by aligning instruction to expectations set by the Texas Education Agency, calibrating Extended Constructed Response (ECR) grading practices, and providing in-class coaching support during implementation. The team also led district wide professional development centered on student work analysis, formative and summative data analysis, and cross-curricular alignment of TEKS to ensure cohesive instruction across content areas. We are currently working developing and refining both Bilingual and Secondary Summer School.

Special Education - Evangelina Guerra

The elementary teachers participated in professional development on implementing modified curriculum aligned with TEA guidelines to ensure appropriate instructional adaptations for students receiving special education services. The training focused on designing and delivering modified instruction that supports access to grade level TEKS while addressing individual student needs, thereby enhancing students’ educational opportunities and promoting academic progress.
