The Parent Seat Video

Please watch this short video by clicking on the link:

Sportsmanship! We need to be proponents of sportsmanship as parents, coaches, and athletes. Banners in the gym and on the football field (RESPECT – players, coaches, officials, etc.). Reminder: any parents that are asked to leave a game will have to complete TWO online courses on modeling behavior (Positive Sport Parenting and The Parent Seat, this is three 6 minute videos). They will also have to submit to me their course certificates of completion. They will also NOT be allowed to attend the next TWO games! Also, after or during games, no fans on the playing surface until the opponents & officials have left the playing area. Students will need to stand on front row of bleachers.

Playing Time

Playing time:

This will always be an issue for someone. Never discuss before, during, or immediately after a game! Please set up meeting with the coaches and your son or daughter concerning things that they can work on. Please let things digest for at least 24 hours before doing this. It will be greatly appreciated.

Attendance Policy

Please don’t take advantage of the system. Meant for those students who aren’t feeling well or have doctor appointments. Students must attend at least 3 class periods to be eligible to practice or compete. If students are sick, please just have them stay home the entire day but must communicate with the coach. This means that if you are to leave early for an event, you need to be in 3 classes before departing.

  • If a student goes home from school because they are ill, they should not be at practice!
  • If students are leaving early for an event, they must be in class until they are excused from school!
  • Students are responsible to get all make-up work from classes they will miss due to athletics. We need to really stress this and be more vigilant! Coaches and parents please help remind students that they need to get their work for the day(s) they are missing.

Eligibility & Grading Policy

Students must pass 5/7 classes attended from the previous semester. Please refer to the Student-Athlete Handbook for the full eligibility information.

Student grade checks will be done every 3 weeks. If a student/athlete has an “F”, they will be put on academic probation. He/she will have 3 weeks to improve that grade and no longer have any “F”s. If they still have an “F” at the next grade check, they will be ineligible for competition!

Drug Testing

Drug/Nicotine Testing – All athletes will have random mandatory drug testing. We will test at the beginning of the season and then every 2 weeks thereafter. All of the student-athletes that are participating will be subject to the random drug/nicotine test. Please refer to Buhl School District policy 3380. It can also be found in the BHS Student-Athlete Handbook.

This is used as way for all our students and athletes to just say “NO”!

Protocol

Please follow the proper chain of command if you have any concerns about your student/athlete!

Coach 🡪 Head Coach 🡪 Athletic Director 🡪 Principal 🡪 Superintendent 🡪 School Board Member

Accountability

COMMITMENT, DEDICATION, & ACCOUNTABILITY!!!

We need everyone’s help to get this accomplished. Our coaches are investing a lot of time and energy to provide quality instruction but we aren’t always getting that reciprocated by our student-athletes. Too many missed practices and excuses for not showing up or being tardy. I’m asking for everyone to hold our student-athletes accountable and make sure they are at all practices and games unless there is some prior approval from the coach. The team sports suffer severely when kids aren’t showing up for practices. It hurts everyone involved including their own peers!

We would like to wish everyone a fun, exciting, and rewarding season!
