Title I OVERVIEW

Title 1 is the largest federally funded educational program. The program provides supplemental funds to school districts to assist schools with the highest student concentrations of poverty to meet school educational goals.

The Title I Program supports:

  • Low income students and families

  • ELL students and families

  • Low performing students as measured by state and local assessments

  • All students to achieve the goal of higher quality education

How is Title 1 funding used?

How are federal mandates followed?

Title I at Howe

Title I in the District

Howe is a fully funded Title 1 building.

This means that all of the students at Howe may benefit from Title 1 services and funding regardless of their individual status.

Title I services are managed through the Bilingual Department and all Title I staff follow the directives of the department.

For Example:

  • Recording minutes that students are worked with for documentation
  • Creating literacy enriched lessons that focus on the state of Michigan’s Essential Practices in Early and Elementary Literacy

  • ½ Title I Interventionist (Reading)
  • ¼ Enrichment (STEAM)

What: Job Responsibilities

  • Servicing students in all Grades based off of assessment data
  • Supports teachers to ensure students meet learning expectations for Read by 3rd Grade state legislation
  • Small group learning environment for Reading Interventions
  • Co-Teaching in Kindergarten
  • Support of students who are English Language Learners

  • To help promote the most meaningful instruction
  • Meeting students at their level and developing their skills to ensure yearly growth.

Curriculum

Howe is a Montessori School.

Montessori is a method or philosophy, of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play.

In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teachers, offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process.

At Howe Montessori, teachers use the district approved curriculums in Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

Howe Montessori teachers take the approved curriculum and incorporate the Montessori Philosophy.

This provides students with multiple learning outlets and ensures that the state standards are being met.

School-Parent Compact

A School-Parent compact is an agreement that parents, students, and school staff develop together. The compact explains how parents, students and teachers work together to improve student success and achieve improvement goals.

As a school, we hold a series of Parent Meetings. These meetings offer support through parent education and home/school communication.

We have also committed resources to build a lending library
