Join us for an evening with Kansas representational “earthworks” artist, Stan Herd!

A native Kansan, Stan Herd began as a painter and muralist. He has become known for his monumental earthworks. Herd’s artworks span 40 years and include his monumental earthworks in China, Cuba, Australia, Brazil and in 13 states in the US. As a progressive activist, Herd has embraced this art form to bring attention to a multitude of issues showcasing the environment, science, sustainable agriculture and the humanities which all connect on a common theme regarding the ‘human condition’ in the world today.

We’re Still Here: Indigenous identity in the making of Kansas.

Dr. Brandon Haddock,Kansas State University

This session will focus on the historical and modern representations of Indigenous visibility in Kansas. From El Cuartelejo in Scott County to Wichita's Keeper of the Plains, how Indigenous peoples are represented affects how modern indigenous identity is viewed within the greater cultural context. The session will explore how today's Indigenous peoples of the state and region face historical erasure and have become visible in modern representation through cultural awareness and empowerment.
