Netiquette

Preparing for our online classroom

2 of 6

Our online expectations

Netiquette are our expectations and norms that will help us work and learn as a school community while online. They are guidelines about how we interact online - our online classroom IS our classroom, too.

Before you get onto your google meet

  1. Test your equipment a couple of minutes before you go online and sign in - test your audio and video
  2. Please be on time
  3. Do you have somewhere quiet to learn? Try to sit somewhere where there is lots of natural light if you can - and away from distractions

When you are online in class

  1. You do need to be ‘face to face’ - by this we mean we need to be able to see you -just like we would in a classroom - this is how we will mark attendance, too.
  2. Be aware of your surroundings. You can use a background screen.
  3. You don’t need to be in uniform, but this is still a school day, so we would like to see you dressed, rather than in your PJs
  4. Just like our classroom at school, we will save snacking for break times. Drinks are absolutely fine any time.
  5. Turn off your mic when you are not speaking

Take care about what you share

What you share online - during class - becomes part of a permanent record.

So our school kaupapa online is

  • If you’re comfortable making the comment standing up in front of a class at school, then it’s probably OK to say online during your google meet.
  • Google chat box is a really useful tool - but it can also be a bit of a distraction. We will use the chat box just for school related and class related chat - and use messenger in our own time for other chat.
  • We remember and practise our school values
