TROJAN KIDS CAMP OVERVIEW

Trojan Kids camp is a sports day camp for 9-15 years old that promotes sport fundamentals, play, and education. Through sports introductions, classroom sessions, and game play we offer a well-rounded sports camp experience.

TKC is a program of USC Recreational Sports.

USC Perimeter Closure/Restrictions

  • TKC Camp Staff will be pre-registering you and your camper with the check-in system around campus.
  • You will be provided with a QR code the weekend before your first camp day.

DROP OFF

Camp starts at 8:30am.

Drop-off at the Lyon Center (LRC)/Camp Office at 1026 W. 34th St., LA, CA 90089

There will be no supervision before 8:30am.

Your camper is allowed to meet, wait, or stay at Lyon Center lobby. There is gym staff present, but they will not be supervising their stay. Please have a conversation with your camper about inside behavior on a campus/workplace, where to wait for you, where to meet you, where they are allowed to walk to, and what activity is restricted.

If a camper is tardy, they can be dropped off at Lyon Center (LRC)/Camp Office. After that, the TKC administrative staff will take your camper to their activities. DO NOT send your child to find their camp group on their own.

DISMISSAL/PICK-UP

Camp ends at 4pm.

Pick-up at the Generations Fountain (across from the University Club, 705 West 34th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90089-1541).

There will be no supervision after 4pm.

Your camper is allowed to meet, wait, or stay at Lyon Center lobby. There is gym staff present, but they will not be supervising their stay. Please have a conversation with your camper about inside behavior on a campus/workplace, where to wait for you, where to meet you, where they are allowed to walk to, and what activity is restricted.

Your camper will be released from this location at 4pm. If you would like them to walk to your office, take the shuttle, etc. it is your responsibility to work that out with them.

Early Pick-Up

How do I reach my camper for early pick-up, etc.?

  • USC LRC front desk will operate as the main point of contact between parents and TKC admin staff
  • Call 213-740-5127 to ask for TKC admin staff
  • You may call Cynthia at 213-740-9252, but she may not be at her desk throughout the camp day. Please direct time sensitive calls to the front desk.

DISMISSAL

During Camp (Early Pick-Up)

  • Please call the TKC office to notify us of an early release. IF you send your child with a note, we will need to verify it by calling/emailing the parent on file.
    • Campers are not to be released early from camp by a counselor. Camper MUST be signed out by a parent/guardian at the camp office by camp admin staff.
    • If there is an adult attempting to pick up a child early and they are not on the child's paperwork, we will require verbal and written approval to release the camper to another adult.

After Camp (End of Camp)

  • Camp ends at 4pm - please instruct your camper on a pick-up location/ plan.
  • We will not provide supervision after 4pm.

  • If your child has a smart phone on them during camp, we advise that you download the LiveSafe app on their device and yours.

CAMPERS & CELLPHONES

Phones for emergency purposes only

  • At all times phones should be put away in a bag and left there until the end of camp.

Other Technology

  • No phone, iPad, laptop, music device, smart watch, or any other electronic during the TKC camp day   

Phone numbers & privacy

  • Campers/ parents should not ask for the phone numbers of staff.

CAMPERS - FOOD & DRINK

Meals & Snack

Your child will be provided with an AM and PM snack in addition to a mid-day meal.

Do NOT send your child with their own meal/ snack unless you have cleared it with TKC administrative staff first.

    • Your camper can have snacks before or after camp.
    • Your camper is not allowed to have caffeinated beverages at the start of or during camp.

Water Bottle

Your camper is asked to have a reusable water bottle to use at water stations across campus.

We will provide a disposable one to use throughout the camp day if they do not have one.

CAMPERS - FOOD & DRINK

My child has dietary restrictions, will your vendor be able to accommodate or will I need to provide lunch?

Please note dietary restrictions on CampDoc, submit all info of food allergies & dietary restrictions to trojankidscamp@usc.edu. Requests and modifications are due the Thursday before each camp week.

FIRST AID

Sunscreen/ Heat Monitoring

  • Campers are allowed to bring their own sunscreen: lotion, stick, aerosol (to be applied OUTDOORS)
  • Staff is expected to encourage campers to apply and reapply sunscreen every 40-60 minutes throughout the camp day.
  • Staff is expected to encourage campers to drink water and take breaks throughout the day

FIRST AID

  • If your camper experiences a serious injury, we will call you and coordinate an early pick-up.
  • We will defer to your applications on CampDoc for information of medical conditions.
  • Counselors are not allowed to carry a camper's medication; not allowed to administer medication for campers - with the exception of the administration of and/or assistance of EPIPEN and asthma inhaler.
  • If your camper is expected to carry & take medication throughout the camp day, TKC staff needs to be notified in advance and the camp medic will need to supervise the administration of the medication with the exception of rescue medication

General Medicinal Use

  • General medication
    • If your camper is going to be taking any over the counter or prescription medication let us know.
    • Inform us of drug name, dosage, administration schedule, and whether they are authorized to carry the medication or it will be stored in the camp office for administration.
    • ONLY emergency medication will be allowed to be carried with them. All other medication will be stored with the camp office for administration.

CAMP DAY

Activity Level

    • This is a sports camp.
    • Your camper will be running, playing, and sporting.
    • Safety is first, fun is a close second.
    • Camp will run Mon-Fri from 8:30am-4pm
      • Your camper will be notified of field trips the day before.
      • Your camper will be notified of swimming the day before.
    • Close-toed tennis shoes (not “Crocs” in sport mode) are required.
    • Please make sure that you camper has on comfortable shoes and clothing.

The TKC office will be the main lost & found location for camp. Backup places to check: LRC lobby and DPS

BEHAVIOR Management

Some actions/behavior may require immediate dismissal from the program.

Discipline

  • Review signed Camper Code of Conduct on CampDoc
  • Warnings issued
  • TKC admin staff will elevate concerns to you, if necessary
    • Suspension --> expulsion at discretion of the camp director�

SAFETY

PREVENTION & MITIGATION - WE ALL PLAY A PART

  • All of our staff are mandated reporters
  • Please notify camp staff if you have any concerns regarding your camper and/or another camper(s)
  • Locker rooms & restrooms are secured during swim sessions. Absolutely NO phone use in these areas!
  • Fountains across campus can be looked at, nothing more

CAMPER UNIFORM

  • TKC Camp shirt is provided to every camper
    • additional shirts are available for purchase for $10 (cash)
  • Camp shirt + athletic bottoms + closed toe athletic shoes
    • Hats are allowed
    • Sunglasses are allowed
    • Shorts length - As the camper stands upright, if they lower their arms to the side and extend their fingertips, shorts must be that long or longer.
    • Conduct a “squat check” on bottoms at home
    • Sweaters are discouraged

CAMPER SWIMWEAR

  • For females, one pieces are required.
    • Optional additions:
      • Supportive layer under swimsuit
      • swim trunks or nylon athletic bottoms
      • rashguard
  • For males, lightweight swim trunks or nylon athletic bottoms are required.
    • Optional additions:
      • Supportive layer under swimsuit
      • rashguard

NO cotton or jean material.

Swim cap, goggles, and sandals encouraged but not required

Campus Swim Facility

Swim instruction/play will take place in the PED Indoor Pool on campus.

There is a shallow end and a deep end.

All swimmers will be assessed. If swimmers want to participate in open swim in the deep end, they will need to pass a swim test proctored by our Lifeguards.

MISCELLANEOUS - commonly asked questions/ concerns

  • Do not lend money/ Do not accept money
  • Drugs/tobacco/paraphernalia is not allowed
  • Campers who bring skateboards, etc.
    • Bikes and e-scooters must be locked to a bike rack. Skateboards will be locked up in the rack outside LRC. Camper must bring their own lock.
  • Contraband confiscation
    • Cellphones, contraband, etc. to be store with TKC Admin staff until end of day
  • Parking
    • See USC Transportation for specific fee list
    • Public Parking - meters nearby
    • TKC will not be responsible for paying any parking ticket, should you receive one
