An introductory session covering commonly used substances, their effects, and how to offer safe, non-judgemental support. Participants will gain insight into the experiences of service users, enabling staff to respond confidently to concerns.

Drug & Alcohol Awareness

Purpose

  • Build awareness of common substances, risks, and user experiences.
  • Increase confidence in discussing substance use with service users.
  • Improve early identification of harm and safeguarding needs.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify main drug categories using the Drugs Wheel
  • Recognise signs of substance use, dependency, and acute risk (e.g. overdose).
  • Understand polysubstance risks and how different substances interact.
  • Deliver tailored harm-reduction messages based on specific substances.
  • Identify escalation pathways for medical or safeguarding interventions.

Alcohol Foundation Training

Purpose

  • Strengthen confidence in delivering Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABI/IBA)
  • Support consistent, stigma-free conversations about alcohol.
  • Build understanding of alcohol-related risks and escalation.
  • Promote accurate, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) aligned health messaging.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify the main drug categories using the Drugs Wheel

With ketamine use rising rapidly, particularly among young people. frontline staff must adapt to its unique challenges. This session explores current usage patterns, the shift from recreational use to dependency, and severe complications like "K-cramps" and bladder damage. Staff will gain the practical tools needed to spot early warning signs and deploy targeted harm-reduction interventions

Ketamine Training

  • Build understanding: Recognise of ketamine’s effects and risks.
  • Improve confidence: hold proactive, evidence-based, stigma-free conversations.
  • Prevent harm: Enable identification of physical, psychological & safeguarding risks.

This half-day course equips staff with the essential knowledge and practical skills to support people who inject drugs. Focusing on evidence-based harm reduction, participants will learn to deliver accurate advice, recognise associated risks, and implement effective interventions across commonly injected substances..

Safer Injecting Training

Purpose

  • Promote safer practices: when working with people who inject drugs.
  • Build confidence: in delivering evidence-based harm-reduction advice.
  • Raise awareness: of the wider health and social risks linked to injecting.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify the risks of sharing equipment and the specific factors of commonly injected substances.
  • Understand equipment choices, including appropriate needles for different injection sites.
  • Discuss route transition strategies to help clients move away from injecting.
  • Utilise accurate national facts and figures in day-to-day practice.
  • Gain a basic overview of steroid injecting (optional).

Safeguarding Adults (Level 2) course provides essential knowledge for anyone working with vulnerable adults in Plymouth. It introduces the core principles of safeguarding, helping staff understand how abuse occurs, who is at risk, and how to respond safely.

This statutory training provides essential knowledge to support the safe and effective safeguarding of children and young people. Aligned with the UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF), it enables staff to recognise safeguarding concerns and respond appropriately within their role.

Safeguarding Children Training (Levels 2 & 3)

Purpose

  • Meet statutory safeguarding requirements.
  • Build confidence in recognising and responding to child safety concerns.
  • Promote safe, child-centred practice across all interventions.
  • Clarify roles, responsibilities, and local escalation pathways.

Prevent sits alongside long-established safeguarding duties on professionals to protect people from a range of other harms such as substance abuse, involvement in gangs and physical and sexual exploitation. Prevent is one part of the government's overall counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST.

Prevent Training

Prevent aims to:

  • Tackle the ideological causes of terrorism
  • Intervene early to support people susceptible to radicalisation
  • enable people who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Understand the purpose of Prevent as a pre-criminal, safeguarding intervention within the UK's counter-terrorism strategy (CONTEST).
  • Identify the different extremist ideologies and groups that pose a threat to vulnerable individuals.
  • Recognise the emotional, behavioural, or situational factors that can make a person susceptible to grooming and radicalisation.
  • Apply the standard Notice, Check, Share procedure when a concern arises.
  • Understand how and when to make an informed, well-intentioned Prevent or safeguarding referral.

This essential session equips staff with the tools and confidence to identify, assess, and respond to domestic abuse. It focuses on using the DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking, and Honour-Based Violence) risk identification checklist and understanding how these assessments feed into local RASP (Risk Assessment Multi-Agency Safeguarding Project) and MARAC pathways to protect victims.

RASP / DASH Domestic Abuse Risk Training

Purpose

  • Standardise risk identification using the national DASH checklist.
  • Embed local safeguarding protocols by linking risk assessments to the RASP and MARAC frameworks.
  • Empower staff to make timely, defensible decisions to protect high-risk victims.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Recognise the signs of domestic abuse, including coercive control and honour-based violence.
  • Complete a DASH risk checklist accurately and effectively during client disclosures.
  • Determine risk thresholds (Standard, Medium, High) based on clinical judgement and checklist scores.
  • Navigate local referral pathways to escalate high-risk cases to RASP and MARAC smoothly.
  • Implement immediate safety planning to support victims and their children.

This learning programme teaches you how to make consistent, safe, and compliant digital records on Halo. It focuses on navigating the system confidently, applying correct coding, and maintaining high-quality, audit-ready records.

HALO Case‑Management Training

Purpose

  • Improve confidence in navigating the Halo system.
  • Support effective and accurate information recording.
  • Ensure GDPR-compliant, recovery-focused documentation.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Navigate key modules, including Caseload Manager, Worker/Team modes, Client Console, and Timeline.
  • Record assessments, contacts, and plans clearly and factually.
  • Utilise version control to avoid overwriting historical records.
  • Complete core documentation i.e. CRFs, TOPs, risk assessments, referrals, and safety plans
  • Manage system tools, including Messenger, Calendar, Groups, and Documents.
  • Maintain high data quality aligned with CQC and OHID expectations.

This intensive 2-day, course equips participants to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and provide immediate, life-asisting first-aid interventions. It focuses on breaking the stigma around suicide, building trust, and co-creating safety plans to keep individuals safe in moments of crisis.

ASIST – Suicide First Aid

Purpose

  • Recognise invitations for help from individuals experiencing thoughts of suicide.
  • Overcome barriers and stigma to openly and safely discuss suicide.
  • Co-create immediate safety plans to reduce the risk of imminent harm.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify the signs and subtle indicators of suicide risk.
  • Conduct a direct conversation about suicide safely and non-judgementally.

In high-pressure health and social care roles, managing a heavy workload can often lead to reactive working and burnout. This practical session moves beyond basic "to-do lists" to equip staff with the concrete tools needed to take control of their day, balance competing priorities, and protect their professional boundaries. Participants will learn how to transition from crisis management to structured, proactive planning, ultimately reducing stress and improving delivery for service users.
