Gym Responsibilities- Before the Game

  • Check the court, benches, stands - Is everything ready for a game?

  • Make sure you know who is playing- 3rd-6th or 7th-8th (higher nets)

  • NFHS Book and Sports Manual should be on the score table.

  • Make sure there is a First Aid Kit available and ready to use.

Start of the Match

  • Identify yourself to the official. Wear your Site Monitor badge.

  • Prayer and Statement: Have both teams line up on the line facing the bleachers/spectators.

  • Home Team: Pick a player to read the opening prayer.

  • You/Site Monitor: Read the statement.

  • Make sure you are available, accessible, and visual- make sure everyone knows where to find you during the game.

During the Match

  • You are there to support the officials.

  • You are there to make sure everyone is safe.

  • You are there to take care of injuries.

  • You are there to document any incidents before/during/after the game.

  • You are there to escort anyone out who does not follow our CYO rules.

After the Match

  • Benches need to be cleared- collect anything left behind please.

  • Courts need to be clean- sweep if necessary.

  • All teams who finish their game must exit immediately.

  • Make sure everything is properly set up for the next game.

General FYI’s

  • Officials will run the game; you help run the gym.

  • Make sure you keep your spectator capacity at a comfortable number of people. Ensure all players have lots of playing space.

  • You need to make sure you are actively supervising the spectators.

  • Do not let the people for the next match enter the gym unless you have plenty of space for them without disrupting the current match.

General Incident Report

*Coach, player, or spectator removed from a game-

there should be NO physical contact when removing someone from a gym

*Any event the requires stopping the warm-up/game

*Any situation that occurs that a Site Monitor feels CYO needs to know about

*All Incident Reports get turned in to your Athletic Director

What is an Incident?

  • Unsportsmanlike behavior from spectators before, during, or after a game- yelling at officials, teams, or coaches

  • Ejections of players, coaches, or spectators

  • Anything you think your Athletic Director and/or CYO should know

*Medical Attention Required

*Possible Concussion

*Injury resulting in removal of game

*All Incident Reports get turned in to your Athletic Director

What Injuries Should be Reported?

  • Anyone who needs immediate medical attention

  • Anyone needing to go to Urgent Care or the emergency room

  • Concerns about a possible concussion with a player(s)
