I grew up in Norway and Boise, Idaho. I went to college in Decorah, IA where I meet my husband of 32 years. We have two beautiful children, one who is a
Senior at La Cueva and Sophmore at Eldorado.
We moved to Albuquerque 25 years ago. I taught at Matheson Park for 14 years in 1st or 2nd grade.
This is my 11th year here at Hubert H. Humphrey ES and it has been great!

Every month I will have a newsletter uploaded to the website and sent out by email.
If your child is sick please keep them at home. Please call into the office by 9:30AM.
Make up work is to be done when your child returns to school, from handbook.
If your child arrives after the bell at 9:15AM, you need to check-in at the office.

In the morning the students will make their lunch selection. School lunch or lunch from home. I will be on duty in the cafeteria until 12 and then they will get recess.
Rooted in Reading is our new Reading Program that helps best organize time during literacy block to insure students are engaged in meaningful reading and writing activities. It consists of tasks that are introduced individually. When each task is introduced students discuss what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to engage in the task independently as teachers model the task. There are specific student behaviors associated with each of the tasks and there is also a focus on continuing to build a strong classroom community! Students then work towards building “stamina” until they successfully achieve independence. We work to the Common Core Standards and the students’ ability. It incorporates science and social studies content.

Math Daily 3 is a framework for structuring math time so students develop deep conceptual understanding and mathematical proficiency.
How does it work?
Students select from three choices, working independently toward personalized goals, while the teacher meets individual needs through whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as one-on-one conferring.
Students select from these three or four choices:
-Math by Myself
-Math Writing
-Math with Someone
-Math Technology
Benefits of using Math Daily 3:
Students develop independence, stamina, and accountability.
The framework adapts to district-adopted curriculums and state mandates.
Teachers are able to meet students’ differentiated needs, helping to ensure that all students meet the standards.
MATH DAILY 3
The APS Science Distribution Center provides the adopted science program for all APS elementary schools. The Science Distribution Center delivers fully stocked science kits containing hands-on activities from Mystery Science in the areas of Life, Physics, and Earth Science. The science kits are fully aligned with state standards and benchmarks and are designed to expand knowledge in each strand of science as the student progresses through elementary school.

Students will explore communities in the United States. Community studies will include content examples from cultures other than the students’ own and from a variety of perspectives including geographic, socio-economic and ethnic.
Students continue to learn how to locate place on maps and globes and how different communities are influenced by geographic and environmental factors.
We will look at how economics affects our communities and how money and trading affects our communities.
We will also study about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in their communities.
The importance of Constitution day, Election Day, as well as other National Holidays.
The PE teacher is Mrs. Tracy McKeever. She is having our students do a lot of different activities! She is also having students check out balls and other equipment at recess.

We are very lucky to have a full time Tech Teacher here at Hubert Humphrey! Mrs. Garcia has a lab running, plus we have iPads for classroom use! We have a great STEAM Lab that had to be combined with the computer lab. She has our class on Fridays and will have them doing great things!

Behavior
ClassDojo a teacher tool I will be using to help build your student’s learning habits and boost classroom engagement. It allows me to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day!
One of the great features of ClassDojo is that it allows parents to view their child’s behavior during the day and are able contact me. I’m more apt to see the message on ClassDojo first because it is up all day.
If students delve into the minus range, walking ticket or speaking with you may be visited.

Student pick up is at the back of the school, please keep the line moving by pulling up as far as possible. Grass pick up by MPR.
Busses pick up in front, daycare vans by student pick up.
Children’s Choice meets in the cafeteria.

To volunteer at the school or field trips, you need to have a background check. It is good for two years. When you get the results let the office know as soon as possible.

We are still planning on where we will go this year! We are looking at many possibilities, but no definite plans of yet.
To be a chaperone you have to have the APS background check done. Let the office know when you receive your clearance.
Snacks
Students are able to take a healthy snack out to morning/afternoon recess with them.
Class parties
The room parents will help with the sign up and organization of the parties. Thank you for helping our class!!
Birthdays
If your child wishes, they may bring treats for the class on or near their birthday.
