Relationships and marriage

• In the Bible, the ideal picture of marriage is of a mutually supportive relationship between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:20–24; Matthew 19:4–6; Ephesians 5:31–32)
• Sex should be part of a loving, faithful married relationship (1 Corinthians 6:15–20; Hebrews 13:4)
• It is better to marry someone who shares and can support us in our faith (see 1 Corinthians 7:39; 2 Corinthians 6:14)
• Jesus himself taught that divorce is not what God wants (Matthew 5:31–32; 19:1–9)
• We should raise our children ‘in the training and instruction of the Lord’ (Ephesians 6:4)

Jobs and work

Politics and the state

• God is in control of all human kingdoms – now (Daniel 4:32) and in the future (Revelation 11:15)

Preaching the gospel

• Jesus told his first disciples, ‘Come, follow me…and I will send you out to fish for people’ (Matthew 4:19)

The fruit of the Spirit

• We can only grow in our Christian lives with the help and strength of God and the Lord Jesus
• ‘The fruit of the Spirit’ are the qualities produced in us as we read God’s Word, pray for God’s guidance, and seek to live in our Lord Jesus

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

• As Christians we have to discern how to apply our faith in different situations – asking ourselves ‘what would Jesus do?’

One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
