That was WorldStrides

Here’s what we have learned…

20 of 31

Financials

  1. What about cancellations?
    1. Participants are subject to WorldStrides cancellation policies, as no funds are held by the university.
    2. The FRP is a great way to protect your investment.
    3. After our final payment date (which is around Spring Break next school year), the cancellation policy “with-holdings” intensify.
    4. If you would rather wait until the “absolute last day” to register if you don’t want to do the refund plan, that date is Wednesday, March 5, 2025. You can pay in full at that time, but will not get any discounts.

  1. You are subject to WorldStrides terms and conditions, especially regarding cancellations, please read them before signing up.

Fundraising

  1. Do we fundraise?
    1. Yes! We fundraise as much as the group wants to.
    2. Mr. Goveia is able to coordinate two fundraisers for the group - they will be “smaller” fundraisers - in October 2024 and January 2025.
    3. If there are parents interested in leading this - please let me know!
    4. All funds raised are held by the program and paid out for your trip costs - they are not “earned” and payable to families.
    5. We will make fundraising payments in December and the end of February

22 of 31

Fundraising

  • Otis Spunkmeyer Fundraiser
    • Will begin in October!
    • Please use the Google Form that is linked in the email to register to be a part of that fundraiser so I have enough kits and accounts ordered!
    • Each student individually receives $7 for every item sold. Our program retains $1 for shipping costs and shared expenses for the trip.
    • All funds raised are held by the program and paid out for your trip costs - they are not “earned” and payable to families.
    • We will make fundraising payments in December and the end of February

23 of 31

Fundraising

  • WorldStrides also offers the Gift of Education link once you register
    • You can send it to friends, family, etc…and they can donate directly to your account - no fees!

  • If you know someone who would like to make a donation to our trip through the university, please get them in contact with me - I can connect them with ISU Foundation to get it into our account.

24 of 31

Fundraising - Tervis Tumblers

  • We will also sell Metcalf Tervis Tumblers between now and next year --- this goes in to our trip account for various group needs.

  • Look for that sale to kick off in November - right in time for holiday gifts!

25 of 31

  • I have digital copies of our 2023 itinerary that were attached to the email this evening. Please take a look at it!

  • We have the ability to customize the itinerary to meet our group’s needs. I will survey participants in December to start making adjustments.

  • We try to get as much in as we can -- according to the requests.

  • Because some things are ticketed, we don’t always get them. Our program seeks out diverse location opportunities, but don’t always get what we want due to ticket restrictions.

26 of 31

Rooming Situation

  • Students are grouped 4 to a room

  • Adults are group 2 to a room

  • Students get to request/create their rooming assignments for the trip

27 of 31

Why 7th and 8th?

  • In 2023, we moved to an “every other year” DC Trip model for a few reasons…
    • Planning and scheduling
    • Fiscal payment time
    • The ability for other teachers to potentially offer non-social studies trips in our “off years”.
  • This approach worked like a dream for us in 2023.

28 of 31

Parents?

  • Yes! We take parents!
  • Do we require parents? No

At the end of the day…it is up to you if you wish to join us or not - we welcome you and you are involved in our planning, as well.

Parent pricing is roughly $200 more than the student pricing.
