BBP Study 17.3 Dataset

This dataset includes three-component seismograms (H1, H2 and Z) simulated using the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) Broadband Platform (BBP). The simulations were developed for SCEC Project #16110 with the broad objective to: test and validate the use of simulated ground motions from SCEC’s BBP in nonlinear response history analysis and collapse assessment of tall buildings. The scenario selection was performed to develop hazard-consistent ground motions for target hazard parameters (pseudo-spectral acceleration, spectral shape and duration).

Selected scenarios (based on UCERF2 rupture definitions):

  • 1. S. San Andreas (PK+CH+CC+BB+NM+SM, source 548): M7.9, 8 hypocenters, 1 realization/hypocenter
  • 2. Elysian Park (Upper, source 260): M6.6, 2 hypocenters, 16 realizations/hypocenter
  • 3. San Jacinto (SBV+SJV+A+C, source 488): M7.8, 4 hypocenters, 16 realizations/hypocenter
  • 4. N. San Andreas (SAO+SAN+SAP+SAS, source 212): M8.0, 6 hypocenters, 16 realizations/hypocenter
  • 5. Hayward - Rodgers Creek (HN+HS, source 334): M7.0, 3, hypocenters, 16 realizations/hypocenter

Selected stations (availability of seismograms at each station is scenario dependent):

  • 11 sites in downtown Los Angeles area (Vs30 390-500 m/s)
  • 11 sites in San Bernardino area (Vs30 280-748 m/s)
  • 6 sites in San Francisco Bay area (Vs30 863 m/s)

The project team was coordinated under the Ground Motion Simulation Validation (GMSV) Technical Activity Group (TAG) within SCEC and included:

Nenad Bijelic (Stanford), Gregory Deirlein (Stanford), Christine Goulet (USC), Robert Graves (USGS), Ting Lin (Marquette), Nicolas Luco (USGS), Philip Maechling (USC), Sanaz Rezaeian (USGS), Fabio Silva (USC), Wen-Yi Yen (Stanford), Farzin Zareian (UCI), Kuanshi Zhong (Stanford)
