My name is Franchesca Gee
and I am a creative / graphic designer based in Singapore.
PORTFOLIO
ABOUT ME
01.
An introverted-but-sometimes-extroverted Gen Z’er who likes to tap into aspects of quirkiness and interactivity in her designs.
As a passionate individual who is open minded to feedback and constantly seeks to improve, I aim to expand my design skills and styles through working with other creatives. As an introvert, I might seem unapproachable but fret not! I am an easy going person who gets along well with others.

SPACE MEAT Illustration
This Illustration is based on a newspaper article about meat grown in space.
The illustration depicts tube like structures transferring muscle tissues to form the whole meat structure to depict the way a three dimensional bioprinter prints meat. This process is aided by scientists in the International Space Station. Its acronym, ISS, is subtly displayed at the bottom right.

MASK!
DIPLOMA
I was tasked to create a poster expressing how a specific brand
would endorse a ‘Wear a Mask’
brand messaging.
There were 3 selected brands; Nike(Jordan), Marimekko and Toiletpapermagazine
As part of my school project,
I was tasked to create a packaging based on a brief.
The brief was to create a packaging for a socks brand, named Happy Feet, that makes one’s feet feel moisturized and hydrated.

Poetry!
For this project, I was tasked to create a digital publication on speeches, letters, or poems. I choose ‘Poems with an Unexpected Twist’.
There were 2 deliverables; a website with animations based on 4 poems and an Instagram page that promoted and introduced the website.
DIPLOMA
Motion GRAPHICS
I designed an animation for a motion graphics workshop titled “Can’t Stop Moving”.
One animation for a bus adshel and another for an instagram post.
DIPLOMA
Motion GRAPHICS
I illustrated and animated a video based on a quote.
I chose lyrics from a song called Okinawa by 92914. The artist writes about a scene at the beach where the sun is setting. The song is calming and therapeutic and I wanted to reflect that through the animation.

BACHELORS
Generative Typography
For this module, I chose to take on coding design as it was something new and fun.
Through the sessions, we went through a few exercises that led to the project deliverables. I experimented a lot with the different coding functions in p5.js, which also led to the making of my mini project
BACHELORS
Bubble Tea Consumption
This project was based on my
Information Design module.
We were tasked to collect data from a specific area of interest. As an avid lover of bubble tea, I chose Bubble Tea Consumption in Singapore as my topic.
According to my primary research, I represented my data in the form of an artefact through coding in p5.js.

Core77 Design Awards
This was a group project based on the Core77 Design Awards brief on “Interaction”
The context behind our project was to reconnect a community together through interaction in shared spaces.
I contributed to the ideation, copywriting and the light installation animation for this group project. For more information on the project, click here.

Semiotics in Film
This publication is based on
the deconstruction of semiotics in the popular Netflix series,
Squid Game.
As part of my research on semiotics, I deconstructed the signs - symbols, colour and characters - in 3 episodes of Squid Game, to investigate the use and role of semiotics in the success of the film.

Invite-
Only
By Invite Only (BIO) is a module which I took as an alternative to internship. We worked with alumnus who were known in the design industry.
I chose the brief from Neville Hew (currently in the YouTube Global Standards team) regarding the upscaling of a brand to a new and global audience. I chose Ya Kun Kaya Toast as my brand of interest.
BACHELORS
Background :
Yakun entered the Asian market as a ‘Singaporean’ brand, applying the same aesthetics and food options (as Singapore) in other countries.
Due to the differences in culture and food habits in other countries, the application of the same concept has not been successful.
Aim :
+ Preserve its unique & rich heritage
+ Perpetuate its belief that a good toast can bind kinship, friendship & partnership
+ Maintain affordability & availability of its products
Extending the brand to a younger audience and a global market → Remixing Ya Kun’s Kaya and Toast into the local delights of a country
Concept + Logo Design
Yakun as a Bougie Brand, selling affordable fusion food made with kaya or toast, with an ‘all day meal’ concept

Nostalgia and Simulation in Singapore
Exploring nostalgia as a 'non-experienced' and recontextualised past
Connecting with our past has resulted in nostalgia-related design surfacing in recent years, due to feelings of positivity when reminiscing the old. With the nostalgia boom, everything around Singapore was branded as 'heritage'. With the realisation that many of us, specifically Gen Zs, romanticize about things from a period outside our lived past I decided to explore the relation between nostalgia and simulation as a Gen Z myself.
My project looks into nostalgia as recollections of an over-romanticized past, a non-experienced past as well as a past that no longer exist today. With the use of photography and mixed media, I produced 3 outcomes: 'Deromanticizing Nostalgia', 'The Last of Sand Playgrounds' and 'Facadism of Nostalgia in Singapore', that are based on the issues mentioned.

BACHELORS
A flipbook animation based on personal memories that I encountered during my childhood. It depicts the contrasting versions of recollections of memories at sand playgrounds: with one side animating the romanticized version that is shared on the media and the other side animating my deromanticized personal recollections.
Facadism
of Nostalgia
in Singapore
BACHELORS
This photography publication demonstrates how nostalgic things in Singapore can be seen as a facade with a twist of dark humour. ‘Facadism’ here does not only refer to the physical facade of nostalgic things, but also the notion of nostalgia as something that is at a surface-level.
BROWNIES
R’ HOMIES
During the lockdown in Singapore, I opened a home baking business for black cocoa brownies with the help of 2 other friends. I did up the branding, social media account, marketing (and baking) for @browniesrhomies_
I went for an aesthetic and unique identity. The characteristics of the brand was friendly, quirky and trendy which made us distinct from the other home baking businesses at that time.
SELF-DRIVEN
SILKSCREEN
printing
Lasalle organised a retail store at cineleisure from Dec 21’ to Dec 22’ comprising of products made by the students. I participated and sold silkscreen prints and tote bags of illustrations.
The print on the left, titled “Beach Day”, is a quirky illustration of scenes at the beach with the addition of a smiley face in each scene.
The print on the right is inspired by the saying “No Rain, No Flower” hence the depiction of a water droplet growing abstract shaped flowers
