  • Good news?
  • Grab one piece of NOTEBOOK paper (on counter)
  • Draw a line through the center (the long way, up and down)
  • Label, at the top, on the left side: dates, and on the right side: image ideas
  • List out all of the years you’ve been alive on the left side of the paper
  • Be sure to skip a line in between each year
  • Yes, you can write front and back
  • If you’re confused, look at my example on the counter
  • Then find a comfortable spot in the room

Personal timeline directions

  • You need to find an important or significant event that has happened every year of your life.
    • You can only have one major life milestone (walking, talking, etc.)
    • You can only have one family milestone (marriage, birth, death, divorce, etc.)
    • You can only have one “move”
    • You can only have one school event (kindergarten, middle school, etc.)
  • You also need to write down an image idea for each event
    • 1996: I saw the Olympic torch relay in Vinton, Iowa → my image will be of the torch relay
    • 2002: I graduated from high school → my image will be of a graduation cap
  • When you are done, show me your rough draft. I will then give you further directions.

  • We’re going to do a “walk about”
    • You are going to take three laps in the 8th grade hall with your partner
    • You are going to EACH share
      • What you have done so far
      • What you still have left to do
      • What you are most excited about on your timeline
  • When you return, I will randomly call on a couple of students to share out what their partner said
  • BE PREPARED TO SHARE!

    • You are making a timeline, so glue the pieces of paper together into one long piece of paper
  • Before you start adding things to your timeline, make sure you know what your timeline is going to look like
  • You can draw or print your pictures, or you can use real pictures (ask your parents first!)
  • You can write (must be readable, write in pen or marker) or print your events
  • Make sure your events are evenly spaced apart

  • You will present in small groups tomorrow
  • Your group mates will look at your timeline and decide which three events you will present to the group
  • Your group mates will also fill out a rubric/feedback form for your presentation
  • I will be grading your timeline
  • You may want to practice what you are going to say… be comfortable speaking in front of others!

ALL presentations are on Friday and ALL timelines are due on Friday

  • I will number you off into groups (please do not switch groups)
  • I will pass out rubric/feedback forms to you. Make sure you have a feedback form for all other people in your group. Write their name at the top of one feedback form.
  • Make sure you have your timeline out and are ready to present. I will tell you the order of your presentations.

  • Take a moment to look at the presenter’s timeline
  • As a group, decide which three events you want to know more about
  • During the presenter’s presentation, be an active listener
  • When they are done, fill out the feedback form
  • When all presentations have ended, please deliver the forms and timelines (in a stack) to Mrs. Jeffrey
