Advertising Summit as a service

2 of 5

Questions to ask

2

What opportunities do you have available to reach new students?

What promotions are you doing already and/or do you have ideas to brainstorm and/or implement for future promotions?

Are you allowed to promote summit services?

Do you use social media to promote your services? Is there a designated social media person for your library? How does that work?

Have you ever asked student workers to participate in promoting library services?

Do you include Summit requesting as a part of NSO (New Student Orientation) activities - scavenger hunts, great race, etc..

Do you focus your promotion on students or on faculty and teaching assistants?

Are there ideas for central Alliance advertising materials, games, etc.?

Has anyone looked into or use browser extensions like LibKey, Get Full Text Research, Third Iron, or Instant ILL?

No obstacles plan - if money, time, and good graces were no obstacle, what kind of scheme would you cook up to promote Summit services.

Ideas and discussion points

3

Admissions / Student Services – campus tours provide information regarding Summit and ILL being an available service.

Ease of use – summit to interlibrary loan options within the requesting forms.

Outreach opportunities – sororities/fraternities, faculty and staff who use the services, flyers and/or promotional materials.

Rebranding opportunity - students don’t make the distinction between Summit and ILL, they just want to know when they will get the item they are requesting.

Reference librarians - promote Summit services when working with students as well as provide instruction in the classroom on the service and how to request items.
