December Center Ideas
Trace letters in tree confetti or use red sand and a candy cane. Say the letter formation as you draw the letter. For example: slant down, slant down, cross in the middle (A) Confetti can be found on Amazon.
Copy and cut out the ornaments. Hang around the room. Students look for ornaments and write letter the picture starts with. You can also have the students write the whole word if they are able to. Link
Make candy canes for your friends.
Label pictures for students to use in the writing center. You can find pictures at the dollar store or make your own. December link
Use small die-cuts or small erasers to make patterns. Link
White high frequency words on the paper with a white crayon. Students use watercolors to find the magic word. Link
Red cups and some pom poms is all that is needed.
Copy on green cardstock. Student put the letters in order from a to z. When finished they point to the letters and say them forward and backwards.
Students draw reindeer. Have a step by step so they can make one on their own. link
Students play with a partner. The first player rolls the dice and spins the spinner. If they get a + then they put the number from the dice of pom poms on their board. If they get - then they lose a turn if they do not have any or their board. If they do have some on the board, they subtract the number from off their board. The next player takes a turn. Play continues until one player fills their board. Another way to play is to fill the board first then try to get the board empty. Link to board
A small tree with ornaments for the students to decorate the tree. Add a paper chimney for them to hang their paper stockings.
Students color the candy cane red and cut it out. Then add the sight words. Link
Students cut things they want and need out of magazines. Flyers from the mail work great.
Put on a tongue depressor. Students use the reading friend to read in the reading corner.
