**Two Pathways for Graduation (required by Monongalia County Schools)

College Pathway: 2 years of the same foreign language, extra science class, three electives

Career Pathway- four CTE courses (Baking, Business, MedEd, any MTEC program), two electives

A student could be in a CTE program and also get the required courses to be college

SAT/ACT INFORMATION

Students took the School Day SAT test this past spring. Their SAT score can be found at collegeboard.org. If they are not satisfied with this score, please refer to the website below to find another date to retake the SAT!

Test scores are required for most colleges (unless the college has stated they are test-optional)

APPLYING TO COLLEGES

Most colleges/universities have their own ONLINE application!
Common App is another option to apply to several colleges with the same application
Early Decision- if your student applies as Early Decision and is accepted, it is a binding choice! They must withdraw other applications to other colleges and attend that university!
Early Action- if your student applies as Early Action, then it is NOT binding, but the student must give the college a decision by the national May 1^st response date, per College Board.

TRANSCRIPTS

Students will request their high school transcripts to be sent to colleges using parchment.com. Go to the MHS Counseling website click "Transcript Request" and create an account! Use a personal Email!
Colleges/universities will want an official high school transcript. They can get these from Parchment. They will not accept high school transcripts sent directly from the student.
If a student has taken a dual credit or college course at MHS (WVU, Potomac State, and Marshall University), these classes were added to a college transcript for the student. The student MUST send these transcripts to the college they decide to attend. There will be a fee involved.

FINANCIAL AID/ FAFSA NIGHTS AT MHS

October 14^th – FAFSA Completion Night 5:00-7:00 in MHS Library

WVU Hub and WVU Admissions will be here to assist families to complete the FAFSA and learn more about WVU

There will be more opportunities for families and students later on. Please pay attention to Schoology and announcements we send out.

HOW TO PAY FOR COLLEGE?

Scholarships- given for academic, athletic, or other reasons. Do not have to pay back.
Grants- often based on financial need. Do not have to pay back.
Work Study- part-time jobs on campus offered to students with financial need to help pay for college.
Loans- can be helpful, but MUST be paid back (with interest).

PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP

$5,500 a year for four years!
Can be used for two or four year colleges within the state of West Virginia
Eligibility Requirements:
Minimum 3.0 Overall GPA
SAT- 1080 overall/composite
ACT- 21 overall/composite
Application opens October 1^st, must apply AND complete the FAFSA by March 1^st!

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

There is a scholarship spreadsheet on the MHS Counseling website with many scholarships and scholarship search websites listed
Check with you/your student's employer (McDonald’s, Taco Bell, etc.) for any potential scholarship opportunities
They are out there; you just have to search!

DIPLOMAS/ CAP AND GOWN / GRAD ANNOUNCEMENTS/ CLASS RING / LETTERMAN JACKETS

Class ring and Letterman Jackets: Balfour will be here at MHS on September 29th during lunches and 2:30-6:00 in the evening for class ring and letterman jacket orders

FINAL INFORMATION

Graduation is May 29^th, 2027 at the WVU Hope Coliseum
A lot of this information was covered in English classes earlier this month. Each student received their high school transcript and financial aid information. If your child was absent and did not receive this information from their teacher, they can get it from their counselor.
