WHY?

3. PBIS Expected at TCSD and included in THS Handbook:

At Wilcox Primary School, our students start out as “cubs.” Once they get their footing, they move onto Samuel Bissell Elementary School, where tigers learn to “roar.” When our tigers have found their voices, our students roar into George G. Dodge Intermediate School, where they earn their “stripes.” Once the last stripe has been achieved, our tigers enter R.B. Chamberlin Middle School, where they learn how to take “pride” in their school and community. Finally, our students, who were once cubs, leave Twinsburg High School, Tiger “Strong!”

WHY NOW...

  • Because there’s not enough time in class to know each child’s story
  • Because it’s our responsibility to teach the whole child
  • Because it’s our responsibility to develop pride at RBC
  • Because social-emotional learning is needed to give all students, especially REACTIVE ones, the tools needed to be PROACTIVE
  • Because we, as teachers, will get back the minutes lost to behavior issues once we form connections in social-emotional learning
  • Because social-emotional learning is in line with Trauma Sensitive Schools for the Adolescent Years by Susan E. Craig

BIGGER PICTURE…..

7 HABITS = 7 MONTHS = COMMUNITY OUTREACH

  • Come up with possible service learning ideas within the community
  • Either do multiple ones throughout the year or one at the end as a culminating activity
  • Easy to carry out service learning in smaller groups than as a whole team
  • Not necessary, but get feet wet in service learning ideas - can possibly transport kids etc...but many charitable ideas/ guest speakers that can be done here at school during the time slotted
  • Thoughts on when to carry this out if going outside of the building?
