What is the difference between an immigrant and a refugee?

IMMIGRANT

  • a person who comes to live permanently in another country.
  • [I=IN]

EMIGRANT

  • A person who leaves their own country i to live in another country.
  • [E=EXIT]

REFUGEE

  • A person who leaves their own country in order to settle permanently live in another because their country is not safe.
