Nursing students from all over the state of California joined together through social media, to organize, and advocate for regulatory changes. They wanted to continue their education and training to become nurses.
California Nursing students Unite for BRN changes Amidst Covid-19
Many States across the US were quick to make regulatory changes for nursing education under emergency executive orders. CA students were advocating for the same. Students wrote letters to elected officials, emailed the BRN and DCA, and called the Governor. We practiced our SBAR and chain of command communication, these skills will be useful as we begin practicing nursing.
Although the COVID epidemic has been a scary time for students to consider starting the profession of nursing. Many have felt that having to advocate to continue their education, and volunteering during this time, has made it more apparent that this is indeed their calling.
Media Stories:
The 50 percent waiver has allowed some nursing students to move forward towards graduation and licensure, but not all.
Many schools are still not able to find direct care clinical hours because of COVID restrictions.
Students still continue to advocate to ask that the BRN supports all schools and students during this state of emergency.
Please help us! Contact the CA board of Registered Nurses and ask that they give Nursing schools maximum flexibility in continuing the education of their students.

Students are our future nurses, COVID -19 should not halt nursing education in the state of California, instead it should motivate it.
