Getting Started in Marine Science Part A
Follow these slides for step by step Instructions
Step #1: Logging In
To access your Marine Science course, you will need to log into the LMS. You will access your Marine Science lessons in the LMS and submit your work there for grading. You should have already received an email from LSS with your username and password. Once you have logged in, you may be tempted to click on the To Do List and start there. Don’t do that or you will be confused. Trust me! Go to the next slide to see what you should do instead.
Step #2: Open the Course
Scroll down the page to find the course card for Marine Science and click on it to enter the course.
Step #3: Open The Course Information Folder
When you are in the course, you will see folders for Course Information, Course Resources and each Module. You can think of Modules like Units or Chapters in a textbook. Click the arrow beside Course Information to reveal the contents of the folder.
Step #4: Read through each item in the Course Information Folder.
Click on all 5 pages in the Course Information folder and read through all the information there. As you complete each page a green check mark will appear on the icon for each page to indicate you have completed that page. When you open the pages titled “LSS Honor Code” and “LSS Policies and Handbook” you will be asked to acknowledge you are accepting the terms of each one. Be sure to complete those. Module 1 will not open unless this is completed first.
Step #5: Read through each item in the Course Information Folder.
Next, click the arrow beside Course Resources to reveal the contents of the folder. Click on all 8 pages in the Course Resources folder and familiarize yourself with the information there. As you complete each page a green check mark will appear on the icon for each page to indicate you have completed that page.
Step #6: Open Module 1
Now you are ready to begin Module 01. Click the arrow beside Module 01: Ocean Exploration to reveal the contents of the folder. You will begin at the top of each module and work your way through the lessons and assignments in the order in which they appear in the folder. Click on the first lesson in Module 01 to open it.
Step #7: Print the Notes
I have prepared guided notes for each module. I strongly recommend that you print these and take handwritten notes as you go through each lesson in the course. I recommend that you organize your notes by module in a binder . You can also print these tabs on cardstock, cut them out, and glue them on to the pages in your binder to create tabs for each module.
Step #8: Work through the Introduction to marine science lesson
Read through all 5 pages of this lesson and take notes. Click the arrow to advance to the next page.
After each lesson, there will be an assessment. The assessment for this lesson is a quiz. The quiz includes 6 multiple choice questions and one short answer question that requires a typed response. You may use your guided notes as a reference as you complete the quiz. No other resources are allowed.
Step #9: Keep track of your due dates
Use this document to keep track of your due dates and put it in the front of your binder. Your due dates will be found in your gradebook in the Marine Science course. To access the gradebook, click the graph icon at the top of the course.
