Dear Grade 6 Students and Parents,
Greetings from the sixth grade team! We hope you’ve had a great summer with family and friends, despite Covid-19. We look forward to working with you for the 2020-2021 school year.
This year is going to be different from previous years. First of all, you are in middle school now! You will have several teachers and learn in several different environments. It is going to be very important for you to be organized. We will not be using lockers this year. You will be in charge of keeping all of your notebooks, folders, and class supplies in a backpack that you will carry with you to each class. These materials are yours only. There will not be a communal sharing supply table. Therefore, it is important that you keep all of your supplies together in one pencil case/box and bring it with you to all of your classes in your backpack. Your backpack will travel with you from school to home and back.

Welcome back 6th graders!
I’m the language arts teacher and will teach the Ancient Greece unit in social studies this year. I am entering my 27th year of teaching, with the last 7 years spent here at DCS.
This summer, as you know, was quite a different one. I enjoyed kayaking with my dog Binx, hiking, reading lots of books, and tackling many home improvements.
I’m very excited to be back and meet all of the new 6th graders!
Mrs. Peasley - Room 212
I am the science teacher and will be teaching the Ancient Egypt unit for social studies. This is my 21st year at DCS. I love teaching science and learning about the natural world, along with my students.
Over the summer I went on many nature walks, did some canoeing on Bow Lake, and explored rivers in the White Mountains. I love the ocean but I did not get to visit it much this summer, due to Covid. Some of my hobbies include knitting, arts & crafts, and jewelry making. I have a daughter who is in 9th grade this year. I look forward to meeting all of you!
Mrs. Cook - Room 213
Hi! I’m Mrs. Cook and I’ll be your math teacher and will teach one section of social studies this year. Many of you already know me…. I am so excited to be joining the 6th grade team and to have my own classroom again! This is my 20th year of teaching!
This summer has been focused a lot on family. I have three boys (ages 8, 11, and 13). We love all things outdoors - fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, camping…
I love math (of course) but also love getting lost in a good book, writing, and crafting.
Ms. Gordon
Bienvenus and Bienvenidos 6th graders!
I am the World Language teacher. You can choose to learn French or Spanish at DCS. This is my fifth year teaching here. Before that, I taught in North Carolina. I’m really looking forward to meeting you and beginning our new language adventures!
This was a quiet summer because of Covid-19. I spent a lot of time gardening, doing odd jobs around the house, and looking at colleges online with my daughter. Every week I met up with different members of my family on Zoom.
Mrs. Drown
Welcome back 6th graders! I am the 6th grade special education teacher. This is my 6th year at DCS. This year is starting a bit different for me, as I will not be starting this year until January. My husband and I are expecting our first baby at the end of August!! When I do return to school you will most likely be able to find me co-teaching with one of your core teachers. I am excited to get to know all of you when I return.
Besides expecting a human baby, my husband and I have 2 very big fur babies at home. Bentley and Charley are both 100 pound Bernese Mountain Dogs! This summer, I enjoyed spending time with the pups and my family. We participated in many cookouts and some short hikes while we have happily awaited the arrival of Baby Drown!
Mrs. McGovern- Grades 4-8 Reading Specialist
Hello Deerfield Community! My name is Mrs. McGovern and I am a reading specialist at DCS. I began my journey at DCS in 2004 as an 8th grade ELA intern and I have been here ever since. I spent many years teaching middle school Language Arts and Literacy before I decided to become a reading specialist. This is my 5th year in this roll, the first 2 years were with K-3 and since then I have worked in grades 4-8.
I live in Raymond with my husband and our 3 sons and 1 daughter. I love to spend time at my camp on Ossipee Lake, go boating, hiking, running and reading. I am the ski program coordinator for the school and look forward to hitting Gunstock this winter!
I am so excited to begin another great school year at DCS, even if it may look different than what we are used to. Keep smiling!
Mrs. Pawlik
I am a speech language pathologist for grades 5-6 and advisor for the 6th grade. I am really looking forward to being an advisor this year! I love language, art and being outside!
This summer, I read a lot of books, did some oil painting, and spent time on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Ms. Gaudette
Welcome Back 6th Graders! I am a long-term sub for Mrs. Drown this year. I am super excited to get to know and work with you all!
This summer I graduated from college (believe it or not!), did LOTS of yard work, enjoyed reading lots of books that weren’t about college, and took long walks with our dog Maggie.
