What is College Credit Plus?

  • CCP is Ohio’s dual enrollment program that provides students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking courses from Ohio colleges or universities.
  • Must complete an assessment exam and be determined “eligible” for College Credit Plus (ACT, SAT, Accuplacer).

Perry does not determine a student’s eligibility.

3+ credit hours= 1 High School Unit

  • The college credit earned will be applied to the high school transcript

7 of 38

What is College Credit Plus?

  • May take classes in the summer, fall, and spring semesters
  • College courses will be weighted equally to Advanced Placement courses in the same area. If PHS does not have an AP course in that subject area, then the college course will NOT be weighted.
  • May choose from a variety of college level courses (as determined by the placement testing eligibility).
  • Courses must be college level, non-remedial, and non-religious
  • Must successfully complete the courses in order to earn the credit (passing grade)

8 of 38

Eligibility

Students must be “eligible” for CCP participation based on assessment exam scores

  • Students’ scores must show that they are ready for “college-level” courses in at least one subject area on an exam such as ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer.
  • Colleges and universities will review students’ scores using statewide standards.
  • Students may take courses at the high school, online, and/or on the college campus.

How to Obtain CCP Eligibility

Per Ohio Revised Code, students must demonstrate the initial eligibility for CCP via remediation-free score on an approved readiness assessment such as the ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer. Due to changes in the ACT, SAT, and Accuplacer, students are eligible for the program by an unweighted GPA of a 3.0.

Although you may qualify for the program, in some cases, the university may require specific scores that are higher than the remediation free score for certain courses.

College Admission

  • Students must apply for admission and meet admission requirements as well as course eligibility of the college.
  • Contact the college to learn about their requirements, processes, paperwork, and deadlines.
  • The college has the final decision on a student admission.

13 of 38

Mature Content

Ohio Revised Code 3365.035 defines “mature subject matter” as any course subject matter or material of a graphic, explicit, violent, or sexual nature.

Parents and students must sign the permission form to enroll in any CCP course(s). Students must sing the Questionnaire in order to participate in the CCP Program.

*Students will not be enrolled in courses until the permission form and questionnaire are completed as a part of the college admissions process.

14 of 38

Course Registration

  • Students should consider courses in a career pathway that interests them as well as courses that satisfy general education requirements in college.

  • Students should ask about pathways that identify courses leading to a major or degree requirements.

  • Students may take CCP courses that will satisfy graduation requirements and must work with their school counselors to ensure they are meeting high school graduation requirements.

  • School counselors can help students understand graduation requirements and CCP course substitutions

15 of 38

Non-Allowable Courses

  • Private applied courses with one on one instruction (performing art lessons)
  • Courses with high fees
  • Study abroad courses
  • Physical Education courses
  • Pass/fail graded courses
  • Remedial courses
  • Religious courses

16 of 38

CCP Credit Transfer

  • It is up to the college/university to decide if and how credits transfer. In general,

most courses in your intended major will not transfer. Therefore, most students

take general education courses that tend to transfer more easily.

You will need to create a free account.

Students can enter which course they are taking and see how many schools

in the Transferology network have matching courses for which credit may be

awarded when they transfer.

Check out how AP credit and CCP credit may transfer to colleges.

Be intentional with what you take!

It is a great idea to check out possible majors and courses required.

Grades

  • College Credit Plus grades earned in the college course are the same grades that will be on the high school transcript

  • CCP course grades will be factored into the high school and college GPAs.

● Perry uses a weighted grading scale for AP courses;

CCP courses in that same subject area will also

be weighted using the same scale.

● Students taking semester-long CCP courses will

not receive grades in their college courses at

the 9-week mark (only at the semester).

18 of 38

Credit Hours

  • Public school students are funded up to 30 hours per year (including high school only courses and college courses-CCP). Courses that exceed or cause the student to exceed the maximum number of hours are outside of College Credit Plus and, therefore, are not funded through the state College Credit Plus program.

● The maximum number of credits allowed during the program is 120

total credit hours.

30 - (high school units x 3)= max number of CCP credits hours

Per OhioHigherEd: college hours that are 3+ credit hours convert to 1 HS unit

(one year consists of summer, fall, and spring)

19 of 38

Credit Hours Example

“John Smith” is taking non CCP Math, Science, and English at the high school

(3 courses= 9 hours), his formula would look like this:

● 30-(3x3)= Maximum number of CCP credit for one academic year

● 30-9= 21 credits available for CCP courses and more high school credit

If a student enrolls in more than 30 credit hours for the year, the school will discuss with the student whether to:

○ Drop the course or

○ Pay for the entire course (including tuition, fees, books) at the colleges

standard rates.

Athletic Eligibility

Student athletes should:

  • Be enrolled in 6 courses the nine weeks before your sport begins
  • Learn the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) requirements.
  • Know that summer term CCP courses cannot be used to bring a student into compliance with OHSAA requirements for interscholastic athletic participation.
  • CCP student is responsible for ensuring they are athletically eligible.

Consequences of Underperforming

  • If students do not earn a passing grade or if they withdraw too late from a college course (usually 14 days from the first day), the district will require students/families* to reimburse the tuition that the district has paid.
  • The grade(s) that a student earns will be on the students’ permanent college transcript.
  • If a student fails or withdraws often, future financial aid may be impacted negatively. For more information, contact the college’s financial aid off for details.

*If a student is considered “economically disadvantaged”, a school may not seek reimbursement.

22 of 38

Consequences of Underperforming

CCP Probation:

Students with a CCP GPA lower than a 2.0 or a student who withdraws from two or more

courses in the same term may be placed on probation. If so, the student:

● May only enroll in one college course that semester, and

● May not enroll in a course in the same subject area in which a D, F, or NC grade

(or equivalent) was received.

CCP Dismissal:

If students on CCP probation do not increase their CCP GPA to a 2.0 or above during the

probation term, they will be placed on CCP Dismissal.

● Student may not enroll in any CCP classes for at least one term.

  • At the end of the dismissal term, the student can request to be reinstated in the program.
  • The student may appeal CCP dismissal within 5 days of being notified.

Expenses For CCP

● “At public colleges/universities, there will be no cost to students/families for

tuition, required fees, and books.

● At private colleges/universities, there will be no cost to student/families for tuition, required fees, and books, but there may be a small cost per credit hour.

● Some optional expenses are the responsibility of the student/family (ex: parking

and transportation).

Students must complete the Intent to Participate

form by April 1, 2024.

On this form, students must indicate a tentative plan

to use Option A or Option B for payment of the CCP

courses.

CCP Textbooks

● CCP textbooks are the property of Perry Local Schools.

● CCP students are to obtain their textbooks from Perry teachers for courses taught at Perry High School.

● For classes taught at the Institution of Higher Education (IHE), CCP students are to obtain their textbooks from the PHS counseling office.

    • Providing PHS counseling office not having the required course textbook, students will be directed to obtain their textbook from the IHE bookstore.
    • Students are to bring the receipt for the IHE bookstore to the counseling office.
    • When the semester is over, students are to return the textbooks to the counseling office. If not returned, the amount for the textbook will be placed on the student fee account.

Am I a Good Fit For CCP?Being “college-ready” is more than just being academically ready.

● Consider emotional/social transition and college expectations.

● Consider time management and organizational skills.

● Ability to keep track of passwords, emails, logins, and due dates?

● Maturity level? (College classes = college concepts!)

*Students and parents must be aware that courses may contain MATURE CONTENT and will not be modified based upon program enrollee participation regardless of where course instruction occurs.

● There are fewer tests and fewer grades that factor into a total course grade.
