Signals

Lesson C

2 of 6

Digital VS Analog

  • What are they?
    • Ways to send signals or store information
    • Digital- information with set values, no in between
    • Analog- information with a range of values with infinite data within that range

3 of 6

Digital VS Analog

  • Picture the times 10:30 and 10:31 on an analog and digital clock
  • An analog clock tells us the time in between 10:30 and 10:31, it shows the infinite possible times that occur
  • A digital clock on the other hand shows either 10:30 or 10:31, it doesn’t show us the in between
  • (these images are just for reference, not the times 10:30 and 10:31)

PWM

  • Pulse Width Modulation
  • Can control the time the signal is on and off
    • On time is called the pulse width
  • Sends either only inputs or only outputs, into components, doesn't do both- it only has 1 wire for signaling.

CAN

  • Controller Area Network
  • Can allows for communication between can bus nodes or electric control units (ecu)
    • Components on robot
    • Allows them to share data with each other
    • Better because it can share data without complex wiring
    • Two wires, yellow-can high, green-can low
