Work package No. 1: Synthesis and characterization of adsorbents

Carbon-based adsorbents:

  • Activated carbons were synthesized from peach stones carbonized by two different methods: (i) conventional thermal heating under an inert atmosphere (CASP-C) and (ii) microwave-assisted heating, also under an inert atmosphere (CASP-M).
  • The adsorption properties and structural parameters of the newly synthesized activated carbons led to the following findings:
  • The CASP-C sample exhibited a specific surface area approximately 1.2 times larger than that of CAPS-M.
  • The methylene blue adsorption index was remarkably high and nearly identical for both activated carbon samples.
  • The synthesis yield of activated carbon produced from microwave-carbonized char was about 2.2 times higher than that obtained from char produced by the conventional carbonization method.

Work package No. 4: Evaluation of adsorption performance

Adsorption of o-nitrophenol

Based on the results of o-nitrophenol adsorption on four activated carbon samples (autochthonous activated carbons AC-C and AC-MR (obtained from apricot stones and apple wood), and commercial carbons AG-5 and BAU), a manuscript has been prepared for publication.

Based on the results of quinacrine dihydrochloride adsorption on autochthonous activated carbons AC-C and AC-MR (obtained from apricot stones and apple wood) a manuscript has been prepared for publication.
