• Anne-Marie Marshall-Dody, Public Works. Anne-Marie Marshall-Dody is a Certified Floodplain Manager and public work professional with a career spanning nearly three decades. She is a public works leader specialising in strategic planning, program management and environmental stewardship.

• Brynné Walker, FEMA - Brynné Walker is Senior Specialist for the Oregon Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for FEMA Region 10. Brynne is also past chair of NORFMA and specializes in emergency management and hazard mitigation planning.

How I thought Teams were formed

• Assess the work that needs to be accomplished
• Determine the position needed
• Determine the qualifications needed for the position
• Find the most technically competent person
• Ask interview questions to find the person who can do the best job

• Qualities wanted to see in employees
• Interview questions tailored to find employees who demonstrated these qualities
• Used tools to make to people feel welcomed

• Staff Retreats

• Base annual reviews on agreed upon expectations for roles

Differences Make Us Better

• Diversity comes in many forms
• Survey team for what skills or other needs are missing from the team
• A good team is a blend of personalities and backgrounds

Signs that it’s working

• People are having fun
• You are still making your targets and goals
• People support each other and back each other up
• You don’t have performance issues or discipline problems
