The History of Kingsbridge
“The Kingsbridge Armory was built between 1912 and 1917 and designed by architect Lewis Pilcher for military use. At the time of construction, it was an engineering *feat.
The building was in military use until 1994, and in 1996 ownership of the Armory reverted to the City. Since the 1990s, the Armory has largely been vacant. The City has tried twice to redevelop the Armory and community groups have organized around advocating for a renewed Kingsbridge Armory.”

Buildings and Construction
The energy consumed constructing buildings can be one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in urban neighbourhoods.
Embodied carbon emissions are those released during the construction of buildings and infrastructure.
For example, when gathering the materials for your buildings and transporting them to the site.
You can reduce these by making the most out of the existing buildings; repurposing or retrofitting them before starting new construction.
Any new construction should use design choices that reduce the need for new materials, such as reusing materials and choosing construction materials with lower embodied emissions.
Building Your Buildings:
Make the most of existing stock
Building Your Buildings:
Minimize the use of carbon-intensive materials
In New York City, buildings are responsible for nearly 70% of the city’s carbon emissions, with the largest buildings responsible for approximately half of those emissions.
