UNICEF

UNICEF is officially the United Nations Children’s Fund. We meet after school once-twice a month for about 30-45 minutes. Members are involved with learning about social issues that impact kids all over the world; they learn about issues within their own community; they give of their time to help with various service projects.

Yearbook Club

Yearbook Club works as a student-led group to create the school’s yearbook. All members are tasked with different jobs, i.e. photography, graphic design, writing. All members are required to be actively engaged with the process.

We meet during Success Academy on Fridays and after school or at other times as needed. August -December. 100% attendance is not required, but best efforts should be made.

As One Bible Club

What is As One Bible Club?

  • A student-led club founded as a way for ABEC students to gather together once a week to fellowship with one another, and grow in their relationship with Christ. You can join at any point, and everyone is welcome!

Volunteer/Service Opportunities:

  • The club strives to offer a variety of volunteer/service opportunities for members to be part of. We participate in Operation Christmas Child, as well as hosting one fundraiser per year.

How often do we meet?

  • As a club, we will meet every friday morning, from 8:15–8:45 AM, in Mrs. Sams’s classroom (Room 117).

Hiking Club

Hiking Club is a great way to familiarize yourself with the great outdoors! Each month we meet as a group to hike trails across Alamance County (2-3 miles long). Every meeting is about 2 hours long and as we hike, we clean up trash to earn volunteer hours.

Key Club

What is Key Club?

  • Key Club is a student-led, high school organization. Our members make the world a better place through service. In doing so, we grow as individuals and as leaders by answering the call to lead, summoning the courage to engage and developing the heart to serve.
  • We provide the school with volunteer opportunities and find ways to better the community

Commitment level?

  • Moderate-high
  • One must be willing to participate in events, meetings, and volunteering options

Benefits?

  • Those who participate find close friends, leadership o, chances to build character and better tomorrow

Ethics Bowl

What is Ethics Bowl?

  • Like debate…but better!
  • Study 15 Ethical cases about current issues and prepare a position on each case
  • Prepare to compete against other schools

What is the commitment level?

  • High commitment level. Meet 1-2 times per week from September through January
  • Complete some additional homework and research
  • Be able to attend a full day competition at UNC Chapel Hill in late January

Future Teachers of America

We meet to discuss educational policies that affect us locally, in NC, and the U.S. We try to get involved in local educational events, as well as assist a teacher for a lesson of interest and learn about free college opportunities for educators.

The focus is to pursue subject interests, research college edu programs, pursue future careers in ABSS, what requirements there are to teach in other states, and/or study abroad.

Art Club

What is Art Club?

  • Art Club is a student-led group that functions primarily with the goal to provide an opportunity for students to come together in a community outside of the classroom setting to engage in conversation on how to beautify our school
  • It also provides the opportunity for students to just hang out and share their love for art
  • Anyone can join no matter your craft- whether it be drawing, painting, sculpting, or even crocheting!

Why should you join?

  • Those who are a part of Art Club have the chance to use their creativity to work on projects such as the chalkboard in the front office, plan art shows, etc

  • As a club, we will meet once a month on the fourth Tuesday of each month. An interest meeting will be held in August.

Prideful Safe Space

What is Prideful Safe Space?

  • Prideful Safe Space was founded and is ran by students. We aim for this club to be a welcome space for all LGBTQIA+ students and allies.
  • We have meetings to discuss issues, plan activities, become involved in the school, and create a close friend group that will always be supportive of each other.

What is the commitment level?

  • Low commitment level, meetings are definitely fun, but not required!

When are meetings?

  • Typically meetings are every other Wednesday after school, in Mr. Scharen’s room. These meetings run for 45 minutes to an hour.

Why should I join?

  • Close friend group
  • Relatable topics discussed
  • Safe, judgement free, and welcome environment

Skill Share

Each month, students will get together to discuss a different topic of interest (cars, the arts, photography, theater, air crafts, life skills, digital literacy, etc.)

Students will creatively collaborate for each month’s topic on a mini group or team project (build a model car, compare various styles of photos, podcasting)

What is Chess Club?

Chess club is an organization that plays chess for recreational and competition purposes

When does Chess Club Meet?

Chess club meets every Wednesday from 3:50 PM - 4:50 PM

Why should you join Chess Club?

  • It helps develop your concentration and sharpness of the mind
  • You get to be in a fun and social environment
  • Overall chess enhances your creativity

How does Chess Club operate?

In Chess Club we frequently play tournaments to determine ranking within the club. Ranks are determined by your win rate and placement within tournaments.

At book club, we read and discuss books of our choosing while we snack on our favorite breakfast foods!

Book club will meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 8:15am (before school).

Peer Tutoring and Study Group Club

What is the Peer Tutoring and Study Group Club?

  • This is a first year club where students can seek a variety of options that is tailored to their study habits.
  • Students have the option to receive one-on-one tutoring sessions from ABEC students that would be tailored to their needs.
  • Students may also have the option to facilitate study groups for specific subjects for upcoming tests and assignments.

Benefits and Meeting Times?

  • If a student is tutoring another student or is facilitating a study group session, they will be able to receive service hours.
  • Meetings will be on an as-needed basis; therefore, students will be in charge of when meetings occur, and they will be able to plan for a meeting to happen around any upcoming tests or important projects to help with the intensity of the school year. (To plan and facilitate a meeting, one student will need to reach out to Dr.Fliehman or Beth Reissman with meeting availability and the meeting subject via email)

Theatre Club

Commitment Level?

  • Theatre will be a major commitment. Although meetings are once a week we want your dedication to our club and hope to see you every week!
  • It will also take work outside of meetings in order for us to have the best final product possible

What is Theatre Club?

  • Theatre Club is a club that comes together every week in order to hold two performances a year featuring songs from your favorite popular musicals!
  • Our Winter performance be a fundraiser towards our Spring performance

  • Explore the world of Musical Theatre with your peers and upperclassmen
  • Enjoy an amazing sense of community as you work together to put a show together yourself!

Campus Beautification Club

Our Goal

  • is to make the school an even more inclusive and healthier environment for all ABEC and ACC students through cleaning opportunities that will take place after school on a needs-basis.

What to expect

  • Members of this club can expect to help our community and school through clean ups and with participation will receive service hours and possibly food. Work at these cleanups could include picking up weeds, planting flowers, and possibly power washing and painting things around campus.

Help us make our school a brighter place for our even brighter students!
