Freshman Academy

Freshman Academy Model

The model is focused on Small Learning Communities centered on student advocacy and wrap-around services designed to promote optimum success in the ninth grade. Research supports the fact that students who are successful during their ninth grade year are much more likely to graduate than students who are unsuccessful. A clear program of study based on RIGOR, RELEVANCE, and RELATIONSHIP will serve as the catalyst for a strong foundation in high school, therefore, increasing the likelihood that students will graduate.

All of this will occur in one of two ways: (1) by utilizing the school within a school environment separate from the remainder of the student body; or (2) by allowing students to rotate throughout the campus with the rest of the student body. This structure will allow for a much needed nurturing environment designed to assist students in their transition from middle school to high school. All 1st time 9th Graders are expected to participate in Freshman Academy activities.
