    • Lack of documentation may result in being withheld from team activity

  • You will have to complete a concussion acknowledgement form

9 of 47

Injury Documentation

  • The athletic training staff keeps medical records and documents injuries using an electronic medical record(EMR).
  • The specific EMR used by Hilliard Schools/OhioHealth is called Healthy Roster
  • Healthy Roster offers the ability for athletic trainers to communicate with parents via the Healthy Roster app.
    • Parents can get updates on their child’s injury status, see restrictions and limitations, as well as the overall progress of their injury from beginning to end
    • Parents using the Healthy Roster app can also upload physician notes and other pertinent information that needs to be relayed to the AT staff
      • Physicals still need to be uploaded to Final Forms only
  • The Healthy Roster app is optional for all parents
    • If a parent does not have healthy roster, an athletic training staff member will still contact the parent via phone or email about injuries

10 of 47

Injury Documentation

  • Invites for Healthy Roster will be sent out via email. This email will come from Healthy Roster
  • The invite will include a link to download the app as well as instructions on how to set up an account
  • Once the account is set up, it should automatically sync with your child’s medical record on Healthy Roster
    • Any issues with creating an account, or logging into Healthy Roster, please reach out to https://www.healthyroster.com/

43 of 47

Interpreter

It matters

what your child hears

not what you say.

44 of 47

Messages You Send as the Interpreter

  • How success is defined

Strategy: Align actions with words about what 'success' means

Strategy: Emphasize mastery, effort, and improvement (not just winning)

  • How well your child performed

Strategy: Focus of conversations should not be solely about fixing mistakes

or how to get better (post-game, car rides, etc.)

Strategy: Let the Coach coach and the Parent parent

  • How to deal with challenges & obstacles

Strategy: Give shared decision-making & let your child execute the solution

Strategy: Empower your child to problem solve and take personal action

(Fredericks & Eccles, 2004; USOPC, 2023)

45 of 47

  • You get to be your child’s biggest fan above all else!

  • Be the best model of yourself

  • You help your child interpret what counts as success in sport – be intentional about the message your child hears!
