LIFE AFTER THE MUTE BUTTON...
How do I MUTE without “MUTE”?
?
How is learning different this year at school?
What don’t we hear behind the mute button?
LIFE WITHOUT
A MUTE BUTTON...
IN THE CLASSROOM
Some of us are back in the classroom now.
The rest of us will be back in the classroom soon.
After being on “mute” for almost a year we need to learn how to regulate ourselves as we return to learning with other people!
What does it mean to “regulate” ourselves?
Regulate = Understanding how we feel and using our skills to help us make a good choice and be successful.
There are many different situations and times when we need to use self regulation.
In the classroom
(virtual or in person)
We use SELF REGULATION
to wait our turn, especially
when we want to share our
ideas or ask a question.
But how do we self regulate
and
Control our bodies?
Using Self Control
Let’s listen to this story about using self control
Let’s Discuss!
Each day there are many opportunities for us to use self control. This week I would like you to notice when you need to use self control. Please share some of your most challenging times with us during SEL circle time so we can learn together and help one another!

It is important to wait our turn to talk!
My Mouth is a Volcano!
As you listen to the story please think about these questions:
Why is it important to wait my turn to talk?
How do other people feel when we don’t wait our turn to talk?
Problem: Blurting out in class
(With voice or by unmuting)
Why is Blurting Out a problem?
What can we do about blurting out?
How can I get My Teacher’s Attention without talking?
Using Hand Signals
Here are some hand signals we could use in our classroom.
Any we want to change?
Any we should add?
Using Self Control
Let’s Talk About What Will Happen
If We Blurt Out.
