Growing up in a family renowned for their expertise in the esoteric arts, Ayla was exposed to magic from a young age. However, tragedy struck when she lost her older brother, Alexander, to addiction when she was just fifteen. This devastating loss shaped Ayla's outlook on life and compelled her to prove herself without relying on her family's legacy. Though she may appear arrogant and bossy at face value, those who truly know Ayla are aware of her hidden depths. She possesses a deep understanding and an empathetic nature that she guards fiercely. Ayla is secretly soft-hearted and loves supporting others, constantly seeking ways to make their lives better. However, her overprotective nature stems from her fear of being hurt or abandoned, a fear that haunts her to this day.

Ayla's personality is a delicate mixture of ambition, intellect, and a wicked sense of humor. She possesses a sharp wit and a penchant for making jokes, injecting a sense of lightheartedness into any situation. Physical activities have always been a passion of hers, finding solace in the movement of her body. Ayla indulges in playing the violin, not only for the aesthetic it brings but also because it allows her to express her emotions in a way that words cannot. Additionally, she plays the drums, relishing in the opportunity to hit something with purpose, channeling her frustrations into rhythmic beats.

After her brother's death, Ayla temporarily stepped away from magic, feeling the need to prove herself without relying on her family's legacy. She needed to be better, she needed to be the best. Plus, had anyone even tried to help Alex with magic? She assumed not, and it probably was a taboo thought, being as was dead, but it didn’t mean it didn’t burn her to the core and haunt her every day. Ayla’s learning to let it go, and she definitely doesn’t dwell on his death anymore, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. Although, her thirst for knowledge and her desire to regain her power touch drove her to seek out Ninth House, a prestigious college where magic is taught and honed. To Ayla, this was not just a dreamy challenge but a craving, an opportunity to redefine her identity and showcase her capabilities. She recognized that Ninth House was where hunger for knowledge met hunger for power, a perfect environment for her to push herself to new heights.

Though she may have temporarily lost touch with her magical abilities only dabbling in them recently, Ayla's determination and thirst for knowledge fuel her journey to master the arcane arts once again. She understands the gravity of her decision and fully embraces the challenges that lie ahead. With every step she takes towards reclaiming her power, Ayla unveils a new layer of her character, proving to herself and others that she is more than meets the eye.

Freya Hastings embodies unwavering dedication and everlasting ambition that illuminates her path. Her mother, Lorelei Hastings passed away when Freya was young. Though the legacy of the Ninth House alumna lived on through the many tales of her remarkable achievements, and consequently Freya grew in accordance to her aspirations to lead a similar life. Regarding her mind as her greatest strength, Freya has spent her life prioritising her education and expanding that power. Mediocracy has never had a place in Freya's world, her pursuit for excellence dictating the standards she sets for herself.

For that reason, she is a generally antisocial person. Freya had always found solace in her own company, and discomfort in the unpredictability of others. Outside of her father and sister, she has never understood the appeal in forming connections with others, nor has she ever let herself understand as they provide little contribution to her ambitions. Relationships were complexities that she didn’t wish for her mind to become occupied with. As a result, Freya presents herself as cold, often closing off any conversation that doesn’t seem necessary, continuously emphasising her singular focus. In desperate times, Freya will embrace her dry sense of humour, though primarily for her own amusement.

With the desire to learn about and follow her mother’s path, enrollment in the Ninth House was inevitable. In her journey, Freya strives to achieve the same level of success that the Hastings name once held.

Most of Atlas’ early life is shrouded in a veil of mystery. He reveals details little by little, as if it's all one long show and the world is his audience.

It's known he was born to Marielle Evangeline Alstone and Sebastian Alstone, two well known performers. His mother was a singer, whose angelic voice warmed the hearts of many. His father a skilled pianist, whose music conveyed a deep yet serene melancholy. They were a duo of musicians, lacing their acts with illusory magic and photokinesis to create a mystical new world; one that you'd only see in dreams. Atlas took interest in music and performance arts from a young age, idolizing his parents. His mind was complex yet overflowing with emotions. Music became the only way to convey his thoughts. He learnt how to sing and how to play the piano. His next goal was the violin, an instrument he adored. His ambition for hobbies carried on to his academics as well. Success and a sense of accomplishment are his driving forces. He aims to stay at the top of his class, dedicating himself to constant self-improvement. When he isn’t performing or honing his skills, he could be seen practicing his magic or studying months ahead of exams.

Atlas strayed from his parents’ passion with his love for theatre. He can slip into different roles with ease, immersing himself in the fictional. Navigating life with a dramatic flair, it can be hard to discern whether his words are reality or a simple illusion. He likes to play with people's expectations and feelings, but all in good fun. He believes that magic and art are two sides of the same coin, able to reach people's souls. Atlas carries a smile wherever he goes, never letting it fade. He doesn't convey any negative emotions, perhaps to an almost eerie extent. A year ago, news of his parents' performances began to quiet down. There has been a subtle shift in Atlas' demeanor, but it's hard to discern. Since he was a child, his eyes twinkled with endless possibilities. Like the stars, they shine bright, but once you look closer you'd notice the depths of darkness they concealed.

Backstory

Power levels

Esther, known as the ‘miracle child’, was born into a life of tranquility and quiet luxury. From an early age, she exhibited no interest in playing with other kids, but instead forged bonds with the family’s pets and her beloved instruments. Like many things, her innate aptitude for the piano, harp, and violin was cherished by her parents, who supported her every step of the way. Her childhood was simple, yet filled with loving memories. Partially, her happiness stemmed from her solitude, as she was homeschooled most of her life, dropping out of school after only a few years. By all accounts, attending a regular school had done her well and many find it hard to pinpoint exactly where it went wrong.

In Esther’s teenage years, she would spend most of her time ice skating on the frozen lake, making music and indulging in sad romance stories. And in the time spent with her parents, she adopted her father’s love of chemistry and alchemy. Crafting various scents which brought her closer to home while she was away.

One of Esther's favorite things about living in the mountains was the year-round cold. She loved the peacefulness of the snow-covered landscape and the cozy feeling of drinking hot tea. Deep winter also meant more time to practice her music, as she was most motivated during this time. When people think ‘Esther’, nothing really ever comes to mind ; “weird” or “enigmatic”, maybe.

People are often offput because not much is known about Esther’s life, as she keeps to herself and never socializes beyond pleasantries. In fact, nobody knows much about her at all. In the end, being homeschooled had played a part in her lack of social capability. She often comes across to people as shy or extremely disinterested, making every attempt to stay clear of conversation.

From the outside, Kairo's family seems like the poster picture of tradition. They're large, tightly knit, and bound by a lineage that dictates a predetermined path for each member. But Kairo never quite fit into that mold. His parents, well-meaning but traditional, envisioned a future for him that mirrored those of his relatives: a stable job, a settled life. While his siblings and relatives seemed content to follow that well-trodden road, Kairo yearned for something different, something more, something real and untamed, something vibrant and pulsating with life. For as long as he can remember, Kai has been drawn to the mystical allure of the arts. Whether he's strumming notes on a guitar or commanding a stage with his magnetic presence, he finds solace in the raw expression of creativity. Music courses through his veins, resonating with his soul in a way that words alone cannot convey.Despite his love for the arts, Kairo's journey to discovering his magical abilities was anything but conventional. It was as if the universe whispered secrets to him, guiding him towards a destiny he never imagined possible. When he first tapped into the wellspring of magic within him, it felt like coming home, a natural extension of his being that he couldn't ignore. But beneath his artistic exterior lies a steely resolve, a determination forged in the fires of adversity. Kairo is no stranger to hardship, and each setback only serves to fuel his determination to succeed on his own terms. But the road to the Ninth House was fraught with challenges. Concealing his true intentions from his family, who remained oblivious to the academy's true nature, required a delicate balance of secrecy and misdirection. To them, the Ninth House was simply a prestigious private school—a place for the elite, not a haven for magic practitioners.Kai’s personality is a tapestry of contradictions and complexities, much like the swirling energies of magic itself. On the surface, he exudes an effortless charm and charisma that draws others to him like moths to a flame. He's quick-witted and outgoing, with a knack for turning even the most mundane moments into something memorable. At his core, he is a dreamer—a soul who sees beauty in the mundane and magic in the ordinary. His love for art and music is more than just a hobby; it's a lifeline, a means of expressing the depths of his emotions in a world that often fails to understand him. He is a soul untamed, a spirit unbound—a force of nature whose journey is as boundless as the stars themselves.

Entering her final year at Ninth House, Lenore Ferrell can often be seen wandering the grounds with a book in her hand, always looking for the perfect spot to sit down and continue reading or journaling in between classes. When she’s not in class, she can typically be spotted in the library. No matter where she is, she often leaves a trail of pressed flowers in her wake. When she’s outdoors, she’s always on the lookout for flowers and leaves she can add to her collection of pressings. She handles herself with poise and would never let herself be caught being anything less.

Born in a small village surrounded by forests and hills, Lenore is no stranger to darkness. This is both figurative and literal, as her parents met an untimely end when she was a child, plunging her childhood into a sombreness that never seemed to truly go away. Due to her parents roles as scholars of the mystic arts and the village she grew up in, Lenore knew that the pull towards Ninth House was inevitable and when she did feel it, she didn’t fight it, she embraced it. Studying the mystic arts and belonging to Enigma Stag made her feel a little closer to her parents.

Lenore presents herself as a calm person and tries not to appear overly emotional to people. Despite this, if she sees someone crying, she’ll cry with them and if they’re happy, she’ll return their joy with a smile. She has perfected the art of the silent treatment, electing to ignore someone when they’ve angered her instead of yelling. This silent treatment also gets applied to her personal life as she is more often than not reluctant to share specific details. She treasures her friends and keeps them close to her, making sure they know that whatever they need, she will provide it for them. While she can be silent in large groups, she’s a curious individual and mostly pipes up to ask questions. Though creative, she is a perfectionist and at times come off as controlling.

Agastya "Oggy" Kapoor, a young man of Norwegian descent with Sri Lankan heritage, was born and raised in the quaint town of Bergen. From a young age, Oggy was a solitary child, preferring the company of books and his own thoughts to that of his peers. All he needed was his parents and himself. He loved the life of an only child. Agastya’s love for literature only grew as he matured, and by the time he reached high school, he had already penned several poems that left his teachers in awe. Despite his literary talents, Oggy was not particularly popular among his classmates. His aloof demeanor and piercing gaze often left others feeling uneasy in his presence. He was known for his cold exterior and intimidating presence, which made him seem older than his years. Few dared to approach him, and those who did were met with a brusque response. It wasn't until Oggy's junior year of high school that his true nature began to reveal itself. That year, he was diagnosed with cancer, and the news sent shockwaves through the school community. Oggy's classmates rallied around him, offering words of encouragement and support. However, despite their well-meaning intentions, Oggy remained distant and aloof. He refused to let their pity weaken him and instead channeled his energy into fighting the disease. The experience left a profound impact on Oggy, forcing him to confront his mortality and reevaluate his priorities. He underwent intense chemotherapy treatments, but when they proved ineffective, Oggy made the difficult decision to cut out his cancer. To amputate his leg. This new disability challenged him physically and mentally, but he refused to give up. With determination and resilience, he learned to walk again and emerged victorious over the disease. Despite his triumph over cancer, Oggy's experiences have left him with a darker side.

He carries himself with an intimidating presence and a brash demeanor that can be off-putting to some. Other students might perceive him as aloof or standoffish, but those who know him well understand that this is merely a facade designed to protect himself from potential harm. When alone or in the company of loved ones, Oggy reveals a much kinder and gentler side. He's very serious and reserved. He has his chosen group of friends and we know his goofy, clowny, joke-cracking side. Oggy's passion for writing has been a constant source of solace throughout his life. He often carries a notebook with him, immersing himself in the world of words and exploring the realms of magic through Cryptomancy. His writings possess an uncanny power that transcends mere literary prowess, a gift bestowed upon him by his Cryptomancy abilities. At Ninth House though, he’s turned himself around, Oggy is known for his flirtatious nature and his ability to get what he wants when he wants it. He isn't afraid to use his charm to achieve his goals, whether it's convincing a professor to grant him an extension or persuading a classmate to share their notes. However, this isn't just a ploy for attention; it's a survival tactic born out of necessity. Oggy learned early on that being broody wasn't working for everyone he came across, and he needed a way to get what he wanted. Despite his formidable reputation, Oggy is deeply empathetic and compassionate towards those he’s very close too. He understands the weight of suffering and the importance of finding solace in what you love. His experiences have taught him that life is fragile and fleeting, and he strives to make the most of every moment. Though powerful in his own right, Oggy is humble enough to recognize the limits of his abilities and recognizes the power dynamics within Ninth House. He just finds it fun to challenge them.

Desdemona, unlike many other children her age, was raised by people significantly older than the parents of her peers. After her biological mother passed away in an accident when she was young, she was raised by her grandparents. Because they were so old, they could not do many of the things younger parents could do; like go on bike rides with her or go hiking. It was a pretty lonely childhood, they never went out for beach days as a family. Instead, Mona would spend her time playing in the garden of their home.

It was there that she discovered her superpowers. When the only friends she had to talk to were animals in the yard, she began to hear their thoughts, in response. An echo to her call. She befriended deer, and the cute little bunnies that would rush past anyone else. It made her quite eclectic herself, never really understanding the social agendas of adults, nor kids her own age. Rarely did she interact with those. See, her home was on a farm, away from society, in an estate quite large, but she never resonated with the posh lifestyle of her family. She does not like superficialities. Instead, she searches for depth and meaning in the little things.

Mona could best be described as quite beautifully strange. She notices little things that would appear insignificant, but they are not to her. She is not a romantic per say, as she does not have much experience with love, but she finds beauty in all the things she sees. She is not sensual, but sacrally she is often creating art, and song. She is not afraid to stand out of the crowd, for she forgets they are there anyway. Her grandparents have sent her to the ninth house in hope that she may become a bit more normal, and learn to socialize with peers, but as of now, she is a bit of a social tabula rosa, waiting for her friends to help mold her urban identity.

Thalia's presence within these hallowed walls felt like a misplaced note in a grand symphony- a discordant melody against the refined backdrop of Ninth House. The university, fit for only the wise and talented whispered its secrets to those who belonged, and Thalia was aware that she was not one of them and yet she was. It should have been Calista or Kaelith, her sisters of scholarly dedication, navigating the labyrinthine halls of Ninth House. Thalia, however, found herself entwined in the academic drama, a conspicuous outlier among those who moved with the grace of silent poetry. The enigma of her presence lingered-she hadn't known how she breached these formidable gates, let alone why she returned for her sophomore, junior, and now senior years. Her sisters, vigilant keepers of academic legacy, spared no opportunity to remind her of her intrusion into their scholarly haven. Her sisters had woven their dreams into the fabric of Ninth House, sacrificing countless sleepless nights to craft essays that were meant to be their tickets to this esteemed institution. Thalia, in stark contrast, had envisioned a more predictable trajectory, leveraging her familial influence for a comfortable journey into a good but conventional college. Such an existence would pale in comparison to Ninth House, yet it promised a semblance of normalcy that Thalia was prepared to embrace. Her curiosity, however, proved insatiable. Against the counsel of reason, she had dared to sign up, fully expecting the looming rejection letter. When her sisters learned of this audacious act, laughter echoed through the Starling household, mingled with incredulity at Thalia's whimsical aspirations. Then came the fateful month, bearing three missives like enigmatic ravens. Two bore rejections, stark and unyielding, while the third- a solitary acceptance- announced itself in ethereal ink. Thalia Orion Eden stood alone in the house of Starling, accepted into the enigmatic realm as a Cipher. She did not even know what a Cipher was and now, even though she was a member of the Cipher house for 3 years, if you asked her, 'Thalia what does being a Cipher require?' she would falter to answer, showing again just how much she did not fit here and yet here she was.

Ok, but who is Thalia Orion Eden Starling? That is a question even though Thalia cannot answer herself nor can the rest of the students with her mystery like aura on how she got in and how her life is. But Thalia can answer a few things; she is a blend of contradictions and has no definite labels except for her house. She is filled with insecurities that trail her and yet at the same time she is bold and brave, wanting to prove that maybe she can fit in the halls that she does not belong to. Is that why she kept returning to the academy? To prove that she was not the very definition of an outlier here? It's part of it she thinks, and the other is just that, she liked it here as confusing as that might seem based on her personality. But truly, Thalia liked it here due to the architecture, she loved architecture and she loved the buildings and learning more about the buildings. As a child, it was Thalia's dream to be an architect, why? It was just something about the concept of architecture that spoke to her- creating something that would outlive you and will house millions of people throughout the years. She also photographed from time to time- pictures of buildings mostly and people who interest her, hiding behind palace walls in order to take those people's pictures.

But the question still remains, does it not? Who is Thalia? Simple, she is a wealthy girl who is as strange as it seems and someone who will never belong anywhere and especially not in the halls of Ninth house or would she? That is a question she is trying to find out.

From a tender age, Amani was aware of her standing in the world; after all, she bore the name Amani Ditto Monet. Nestled within the opulent embrace of the Monet lineage, a convergence of aged affluence and contemporary wealth, Amani's path in life was meticulously paved. She existed in a state of perpetual abundance, untouched by the anxieties that plagued ordinary souls. As the youngest child in her family, Amani was the recipient of boundless affection, an indulged child whose whims were diligently attended to by adoring parents and siblings. Her love for her family bordered on fervent, creating an impression that her family was the only people capable of holding her heart and immune to her cruel tendencies. Yet, to those beyond the sacred circle of kinship and her chosen confidants, Amani was as unforgiving as hell fire. A mistress of sarcasm, veiled in vanity, and wielding the art of manipulation with deep elegance, Amani held no rationale for her demeanor other than sheer amusement. Reveling in the power dynamics she could orchestrate, she found joy in putting others in their places and relished the sport of reminding them of her elevated status. For Amani, the world was her stage, and the players were merely marionettes dancing to her whims. Public schools were a realm she had never deigned to tread upon; why should she, when she hailed from a lineage of affluence and influence? Amani's education unfolded within the hallowed halls of esteemed institutions, her curriculum embellished with presidencies and valedictorian distinctions. The French club bent to her leadership during sophomore years, the student council yielded to her governance in the subsequent junior and senior years, and academic excellence crowned her valedictorian for both middle school and high school. When the elusive Ninth House extended its invitation to Amani, it came as no surprise; familial precedent dictated as much. However, unlike her esteemed siblings, Amani's reception in the corridors of Ninth House was not one of adoration. Disfavor cloaked her, an enigmatic figure surrounded by a nebulous aura of aversion. Despite the disdain she garnered, none dared to voice their sentiments in her presence. Envious gazes lingered, for every alluring and formidable woman invariably accumulates a collection of adversaries. Jealousy, an infectious ailment, coursed through the veins of those who scorned her, yet even amidst their antipathy, none dared to confront her directly. The allure of proximity to Amani, the promise of emulating her success, served as a compelling elixir, ensuring that those who reviled her still sought favor within her shadowed orbit. Moreover, so many things were true about Amani; she was a snake, one who found amusement in the discomfort and insecurities of others and a spoiled brat. But there was one thing that was not true, Amani Ditto Monet was not just who she was because of her family, the credit for her success, for her scholarship achievements belonged to her and show for her parents for opening doors for such things, but Amani never paid her way academically wise- she has spent her entire life carving out the perfect version of herself at school & at home. That was to say that, Amani earns her grades fair and square and it was obvious from the way she spoke and wrote, in addition Amani's personality in front of her family was quite different than her personality outside. Overall, to summarize all that has been written about the all so loving Amani, the most important details are; Amani was an intelligent but vain spoiled bitch.

Power levels

His entire childhood, he knew no family but his grandparents. His mother passed away when he was young, and his father was someone best left forgotten. He doesn't even dare utter his name, letting it fade from existence. His grandmother was the sweet baker next door, who ran her own bakery. Nic had spent countless childhood days at that place. The comforting aroma of pastries and warm atmosphere became a memory which brings him back to simpler times. His grandfather was an average retired accountant, who was usually the one at home and raising Nic while his wife was busy at work. Whenever he had a problem studying, he could always rely on his grandfather for help. The living conditions were modest and their home was filled with love and joy. Though a small family of three, their portraits never felt lacking.

But upon a deeper look, there were fading shadows lurking in the background. Something was off, buried along with the missing silhouettes. And suddenly the elder’s smiles twisted with unexplainable intentions. Nic had a quick wit from a young age, the family's pride and joy. His childhood was spent buried in books, or playing mind games to sharpen his intellect. He excelled in academics, specifically literature and language courses. His grandparents had raised him to value his rationality and safety above all. But with such a mind naturally came curiosity. He couldn't help but dig deeper into the shadows that haunted their home and his mind.

It wasn't long before his world shattered in front of his eyes. His health had begun declining, gradually taking more days off classes until he became fully absent. The time between his teenage years blurred together. Watchful eyes followed him everywhere he went. The shadows inhabited his mind. His efforts to repel them were worthless. He felt cursed, no, he was cursed. He grew silent, cold, as if he began to lose his humanity. It was unexplainable to the rest, how someone full of potential could meet such a cruel fate. But Nic knew. And he couldn't dare speak of it.

Captivating any room he walks in, Jesse Routledge is a man with innate charisma that commands attention. Over the years, he has grown to understand the power of his effortless magnetism, and Jesse has always been able to navigate the intricacies of varying social situations equipped with a well-timed joke and a disarming smile. Jesse has learnt how to get what he wants, using his persuasive charm and knowing what cards to play while keeping most still close to his chest.

It may come as a surprise to see such light-hearted energy under the Routledge name. A family renowned for intensity and adherence to strict principles, the offspring of such combination would have expectedly resulted in an offspring with a closer matching demeanor. Though, amidst his parents’ push for rigidity and focus, it only pushed Jesse the opposite way. His significant academic potential Jesse undeniably held wasted on an urge to skip lessons or sleep in class. Call them acts of protests, the need to not give his parents what they wanted.

Jesse’s nature had fit perfectly in Ninth House. His natural charm allowing him to effortlessly blend in with the clandestine dealings of Umbra Coven, and his subtle ability to influence conversations catching their attention. Returning to the school, Jesse stands as a well-established member of the society, feeling well-equipped to take on the new year.

However, witnessing the rift that tore through their lineage ignited a profound realization within the siblings. They pledged to remain a steadfast support for each other.

Tae Duman’s existence is a series of unfortunate events, beginning with his conception. His father had left his first wife to marry Tae’s mother after having an affair, of which Tae is the result. Then, when he was a child, a revelation after the passing of his father’s parents caused a feud which resulted in his father and his uncle becoming estranged. His family lived in the lingering emotions of those events for a few years until something even worse struck their family. One night, while out on their own together, Tae and his older brother, Isaac, were in a car accident. Tae survived, though his injuries would continue to affect him for years to come, but his brother died that night.

Adjusting to life after the accident was difficult for Tae as not only did he have to become acquainted with the new limitations of his body, he also had to come to terms with the death of his brother, someone he had looked up to since he was a child. To cope, he turned to music. It offered him a distraction from the pain he was experiencing, both emotional and physical. Whether that meant spending hours in his room doing nothing but laying on his bed and listening to the records he collected when he was too sore to move or picking away at the strings of his guitar, trying to learn new songs when he missed his brother too much. His brother was the person who taught him how to play in the first place and so playing made him feel closer to him.

Tae is an honest individual, brutally so, to the point where he can be perceived as harsh by people who don’t know him and can sometimes speak without thinking. However, he is compassionate and will apologize if he sees that something he’s said has hurt someone’s feelings, though he won’t deny that he meant what he said. As a result of the accident, which he blames himself for, he has a tendency to overthink certain situations, especially when a decision he’s making could have an effect on other people. While he is eager to help other people he sees are in need, he is reluctant to accept it for himself, even when he might desperately need it. There are few people he trusts to help him, especially when it comes to his injury.

On the doorstep of their home, a once unfortunate, infertile couple found a baby in a basket with the name Vincenzo tagged to his blanket, and they gave him the love that his birth family did not seem able to give them. Unfortunately for him, Vincenzo was not born as fortunate or fiscally powerful as many other students. His mother was a seamstress, and his father a baker. His clothes were hand-me-downs and their home was old collecting dust soon after each clean, but they were happy until tragedy struck.

When he was aged 7, a shadowy figure came into his home and murdered Enzo’s parents. He could not remember their face, but he remembered the gore, and the defenselessness he felt when he could not do anything to save them.

As a result, having no other family to take him, Enzo was sent to live in an orphanage for other boys who had lost their parents. There, he was tortured by nuns, who would hit him with their rulers if he said anything out of line. Nights were rough, and he only had the fireplace to warm him.

But it was not enough. Always the weaker of the children, Vincenzo was thin and short as a child, giving many pretext enough to tease and bully him, taking the little money he would earn from running errands. It was not just bullying like it would be portrayed in films, though. He was used as a punching bag, never left alone, enduring things too harsh to mention in his description.

The torment lasted until about the age when he hit puberty, rising above the heads of his peers where he could tower over them. Not only that, but in his hands he had discovered his ability to manipulate shadows, as well as cryptomancy. This newfound power gave him a thirst for revenge. Thus, he became all that he feared, doing whatever it took to take back the youth that was stolen from him. Before long, he was discovered by the Ninth House, school, and admitted as a misfit among his peers who then conquered all that he wished; it was his to take, after all.

Vincenzo is, at heart, a carnivore. He does what he wants, where he wants, with whoever he wants, shamelessly. If something is not given to him, he finds a way to take it whether that be overt violence with rivals, or a more… manipulative technique with women whom he desires. And if he has a soft spot, there are bodies scattered along the path to it.

As part of a long line of Ninth House alumni, Raven is the youngest of six to grace the campus with her seemingly mysterious presence. Years ago, her parents met at the school, having each been legacy students of similar background themselves. Her mother, Eun-Kyung, a talented performer within Enigma Stag, and her father, Julien, a member of the cryptic Umbra Coven. The pair soon fell for each other, uniting their families’ prestigious lineage, and in time having six children to follow in their footsteps.

Like their parents before them, Raven’s elder brothers all followed the path of their father, like his male relatives before him, into Umbra Coven. While Raven’s two sisters followed the path of their mother and her family into Enigma Stag. Raven however was different. Unlike her mother and sisters, enchanting performances weren’t her specialty, nor did she possess the same charm to make anything seem like reality the way they could. She was more like her father, stoic and always one to keep intentions hidden, though unideal for the brotherhood embraced by the males of her family lineage. With this, there was another group for her, perhaps one all the more fitting, Quantum.

Quantum was a place where Raven could truly excel. She could study and learn, developing her mind and her abilities, to understand all that she can, for nothing is more powerful than knowledge.

Cayenne grew up in a world quite different from many of her fellow classmates. American, born and raised in the southern Appalachian area, she’s grown up with nothing, considered trailer park trash. Her parents were only a bad influence on each other, never really able to take care of Cayenne, or her younger sister, Calico. Cayenne spent more time raising herself, and taking care of not only her sister, but her parents as well than getting to be a kid. She had to grow up fast, because someone had to be the adult. She knew she had to do whatever it took to survive, and to give her sister a shot at a normal life.

Cayenne never truly imagined that there would be a chance of being able to go off to college to have much of a life beyond what she was born into, but then something happened that she couldn’t have expected. Her maternal grandparents, who she had never met, had paid for her college tuition, instructing that she go to Ninth House for her education as her mother was supposed to do before she threw everything away and got pregnant with Cayenne. By attending this school, she would be able to receive an inheritance upon graduation, enough to help her take care of her sister and make sure she wouldn’t have to worry.

Cayenne is a survivor and a fighter by nature, having spent her whole life with nothing. She’s learned to get by through whatever means necessary. Whether it means working hard, or using her charm on others, or doing something that she would potentially regret later. If it means protecting her sister, or even her friends, she’ll do anything so they don’t have to. She can come across as tough, or problematic, but when it comes to those she cares about she’s a complete softie. She just wants to keep those that matter to her safe.

The boy was sulking in his room, idly strumming his violin. A sharp snap echoed as a string broke under his careless touch. He put the instrument down on the floor, not caring if someone stepped on it or not. He stopped caring years ago. He was late… but he didn’t seem to mind. He didn’t even know what he was late to but he was too preoccupied with rotting his life away, that he didn’t have time to check. He glanced at the mirror to see how little effort he put into his dishevelled appearance. Just a perfect amount: -1 effort.

As a child, Floriano was careless. He would swim in the river, not minding the strong currents. Or climb the trees with reckless abandon, attaining countless splinters (to his mom’s despair). He would run with the wind alongside his brother, countering the big world. So big in the child’s eyes. So amazing.

As a teenager, Floriano was uncaring. As adolescence loomed, carelessness gave way to apathy.

“I will be a writer,” he used to declare proudly to his father, who would nod at his remarks with a dismissive expression. “I will be the greatest writer in the whole wide world! Better than Shakespeare himself,” he bragged to his brother as they sat atop the tree, their feet dangling. His dreams were as lofty as the branches they perched upon.

With age, he became lazy. Ambition waned with time, replaced by inertia. He threw his dreams away, just like the crumpled pages of his poems. The bits of paper swarmed him and the marks of ink on his fingers seemed like deep wounds. He stopped reading books, despite his talent to read between the lines. He could understand writings as if he created them, melting into them, becoming one. But now, the books on his shelves were covered with a thick layer of dust. His potential, his ability to learn fast also seemed to be left in the past.

Life seemed bleak, he wrote on the piece of paper and then threw it away – the white ball escaped through the window and flew with the wind. But… life truly seemed grey. He was alone, hiding underneath too big, dirty clothes. Maybe he wanted to be mysterious? Mystery was sexy. Many thought so… but it was a false perception. He didn’t want to be enigmatic. He never was. It was life that shaped him that way and it was difficult to escape that box, not that he found home within it. A stifling, dark home… but home nonetheless.

And then… there was his brother. The bane of his existence… as if life itself wasn’t hellish enough. He could see small glimpses… small memories wanting to reveal themselves again. But they were too weak. They flickered like dying embers. Were he and his brother ever close? Did they use to run through the forest? Did they play knights? Swim in the sea? Always together…? No, impossible.

There was no comfort in life, he realized too soon. Even sex didn’t help. He hooked up a lot. Not because he was handsome or because he could charm a girl with a sloppily-constructed pickup line. But because broken people seemed to find comfort with other broken people. What were their names? Their passions? He didn’t know. Perhaps, they told him but he didn’t remember. Tangled bodies, and short breaths occupied his mind, distracting him from the world outside. For a short while… for a second…

“Please, let us stay like that a little longer, at least until dawn. And then you will go… because you have to go… you have to fly away.”

Like that damned piece of paper.

His life was not once this wonder and journey to the capabilities of his magical prowess, but rather a simple life that was predetermined for the average simple citizen. Before his admission to the academy, he was a boy from Ansim-dong in Daegu, living in hopeful bliss with his friends. A loving mother and a passion for the arts gave him a home where singing was commonplace. From her mother's tunes in the kitchen to the festival chants that bare its praise, he breathes in the arts and has accumulated a bond to them. It helps that he had a natural talent for singing, being the center of adoration in his family. This in turn made him the "weird" kid in his school, where he was relentlessly teased for his interests and awkward personality. Before anything would escalate to physical harm, his mother made sure she was there to protect him and also made sure that his talents would be his best revenge on those naysayers.

As they say, revenge is best served cold. Soon, when he was around 15, his voice was heard around the city's radio station. As his voice matured, so did his looks, becoming the new sensation in his district once his music danced through every street he had once passed through. His newfound popularity gained him many opportunities that he never thought would be possible: a school band he founded, praises for his artistry, and a special someone who he had cherished when they spent time strolling along the streets. For someone like him, he had thought that his future was bright and would soon delve right into the entertainment industry once he had shown his full capabilities... but this was once his original life.

Currently, his family moved out of Korea once they saw an opportunity for a new life, an acceptance letter for him to attend a new school that sees improvement for his abilities, and a new chapter that can change the trajectory of his fate as he sees it. For now, he remains steadfast and reminds himself to never lose the good-natured and approachable charm he has always possessed. People who once knew him always saw him as a sweet man who could never harm anyone, and he enforces this nature as he makes sure to be respectful and kind to others, believing that this can be a reward for the future. Some may call him sensitive and airheaded to anyone's liking, but he simply goes with the flow and jams out to some music as he faces the challenges that await him.

Her earliest memories are painted with hues of ancient manuscripts, celestial observatories, and the whispers of forgotten secrets. Adrian Dear has been the Headmaster of Ninth house for 28 years; residing and calling that same institution home. Besides the student dorms there is a part of Ninth House that belongs to Dears - the only place Aurora could even call home. She grew up in Ninth House, watching students come and go until she was old enough to call herself a Ninth House student. Living in this institution let Aurora into the wicked world of it as such a young age, understanding what went on behind closed doors and what secrets she had to keep; knowledge that was at time suffocating her.She was raised in an environment where books weren't just stories but gateways to otherworldly realms. Her curiosity, kindled by the luminescent glow of Ninth House’s library, quickly evolved into a passion for the mystical arts. Guided by her father's subtle teachings, Aurora delved into the traditions, the very essence of the Quantum which she would later come to lead.

Aurora's exterior mirrors the luminosity of her name. At first glance, she is the embodiment of warmth and positivity, her laughter echoing like a melody through the ancient corridors. Her auburn locks and sparkling eyes contribute to the image of a radiant girl whose presence seems to dispel shadows. However, behind the radiant facade lies a mind adept at navigating the intricate threads of both academia and the occult. Aurora's cheerfulness is not merely an expression of genuine joy but a strategic tool used to create an aura of approachability and charm. She understands the power of perception in a place where alliances and connections are as crucial. Her ability to maintain a cheerful demeanor, even in the face of challenges, grants her a certain influence over those around her. Students and faculty alike are drawn to her radiant presence, finding solace in the illusion of simplicity she presents.

Aurora's endearing quirk in addressing her close friends as "Deer" became a symbol of camaraderie within the Quantum. Her use of the term, while seemingly endearing, serves as a subtle form of control, reinforcing a sense of unity and camaraderie within the Quantum. She carefully crafts an image of inclusivity, ensuring that every member feels valued, all while subtly guiding the direction of the society.

Returning for another year at Ninth House, Hayes carries the weight of secrets. His decision to repeat a year remains shrouded in mystery, a puzzle with missing pieces that no one on campus can solve. He offers no explanation, deflecting inquiries with a cryptic smile and elusive words. He attends classes with a contemplative air, his gaze often drifting to the hidden corners of the campus. It's as if he sees beyond the veil that separates the known from the unknown, and those who observe him closely sense that he is privy to secrets that would shatter the illusions.

Born in the embrace of a small, mysterious village nestled between ancient woods and rolling hills, Hayes Ferrell alongside his sister, Lenore, emerged into a world where secrets echoed through every rustling leaf and hidden path. His tragic beginnings were etched in the shadows of a thigh knit community, his parents - scholars deeply intertwined with the mystical arts - meeting a tragic fate that cast a somber veil over his early years. Raised in that world, Hayes developed a connection to the mystical energies that flowed through the heart of his village. As he grew, the call of knowledge beckoned him towards Ninth House, a beacon of mystical studies.

Hayes Ferrell is an embodiment of reserved strength and enigmatic determination. Shyness veils him like a protective cloak, yet within that reserved nature lies an observer, attuned to the subtle rhythms of the energies that move through the college's ancient halls. Yet, within the confines of Cipher, he emerges as a silent force, his determination and quiet strength contributing to the collective mastery of Cipher arts. His interactions with friends reveal a subtle warmth and unwavering loyalty. Hayes is the steadfast companion who, though quiet, stands as a reliable pillar of support for those fortunate enough to breach the walls of his shyness. His friends find in him a confidant, someone who listens with genuine interest and offers quiet wisdom when needed. The house of Beaumont shall only display one thing: elegance. Be it the application of the mystical arts or the culmination of knowledge that seeps through the veins in their bodies, the substance and impact of their actions must always come with effortless style and grace. To put it simply, a Beaumont must always keep face to maintain that sparkling generational legacy at the Ninth House. Despite this gilded splendor the Beaumonts display, it is an open secret to many that their elegant facade is a way to mend broken fragments of a history shrouded in hushed-up scandal and deceit, like putting gold leaves on cracked vases. Celestine herself was made aware of her condition as soon as her mother decided her fate: the golden child. Her mother adored her dearly as she showcased her intellectual talent at such a young age. Each culmination of her intellectual capabilities and soon enough magical prowess made her the face of the Beaumont name. And with her doting mother dearest, both spent their times in achieving that certain balance of knowledge and elegance.

Of course, Celestine, as a person, is never focused on her family's obsession with such a goal. One could say that her mouth has pursed tight with her family's need to keep face. But to say that she is a nice person is an overstatement. She is cheery and helpful when warranted, but is overall too high on her pedestal and gets blunt with the words that she spews. Her attitude makes some people call her a little difficult, which results in her time being spent more in the library, accumulating knowledge, and perfecting herself. Anyway, to her, elegance is not a definition of courteousness but a perfection of one's abilities. Even so, despite the low opinion in public, her closest friends may say otherwise and peek at that cheery personality. Her love of mod fashion, bubblegum pop, and sitcoms exemplifies that bubbly side of hers, mostly seen by her siblings and close friends. Interest beyond bubbly entertainment may seem shallow to describe that cheery side of hers, but it is all that she knows and knows very well to express that good-natured side of hers.

As old-fashioned as she is in her fashion choices, it does seem that something struck her. As if a different weight in her body has been lifted, she wants to make peace with something she has yearned for quite a long time. And for this year, she aims to... alleviate some of her shortcomings; whether it is her personality or a change of view in elegance, she has yet to decide.

Dante Blackwell, the only child of Amelia and Robert Blackwell, grew up in a cozy suburban home. His parents discovered his magical abilities early on, witnessing small yet intriguing displays of his powers - a levitating toy or a flicker of light without any apparent source. Excitement filled the Blackwell household as they enrolled Dante in a local magic school, envisioning a future where their son would embrace the wonders of the arcane arts. However, Dante had a different perspective. Rather than immersing himself in magical studies, he embraced a carefree and rebellious spirit. School became a place for socializing, forging friendships, and engaging in activities of his choosing. Classes and lectures took a backseat as Dante navigated the magical world on his own terms. His indifferent attitude toward magical theory and tradition often led to clashes with his professors, who saw potential in him but struggled to channel his interests.

Dante's love for freedom and spontaneity overshadowed the structured nature of magical education. Amelia and Robert, still hopeful that their son would recognize the significance of his magical gift, found themselves at odds with Dante's approach. While they saw magic as a source of wonder and possibility, Dante perceived it as just one aspect of his identity, not requiring special attention. As Dante matured, his rebellion extended beyond the classroom. He explored the magical realm with a group of like-minded friends, often pushing boundaries and challenging conventional magical norms. His carefree demeanor became a trademark, earning him a reputation as the "rebel" within magical circles. Despite the tensions with his parents and the magical community's expectations, Dante continued to carve his path. His journey was defined by the pursuit of freedom, self-expression, and an unwavering determination to live life on his own terms.

Lyra Skylark hails from a family of powerful magicians, renowned for their expertise in the arcane arts. She was born into a world where magic flowed through her veins, and where wonder and fascination bloomed like enchanted flowers. Lyra, the middle child, had an older brother, a prodigious magician nearly 3 years her senior, and a younger sister, her confidante and ally, born just a year apart.

Tragedy struck the Skylark family when Lyra was just 16. Her older brother, a gifted magic user, met an untimely end under mysterious circumstances tied to his magical capabilities—dark secrets that remain shrouded in uncertainty. This devastating event cast a profound shadow over the once-joyful family, leaving Lyra deeply affected and grappling with the unexplained loss of a beloved sibling. The loss of her brother made her nervous about wielding her own magical powers, instilling a sense of caution and apprehension in her approach to magic.

She is a thoughtful and introspective individual. While as child she was filled with wonder and was a bubble of energy, the loss of her brother has made her more reserved, and she often finds solace in the natural world. She is compassionate and caring, especially towards her younger sister, whom she feels a responsibility to protect.

Despite her nervousness about using magic, she is not one to be underestimated. There is a powerful magic running through her veins, one that has not yet found its full capabilities. She excels in her studies of magic, particularly in the field of nature. Her cautious nature has made her adept at channeling her magical abilities in harmony with the natural elements.

In addition to her natural magical prowess, Lyra possesses a remarkable skill with the harp - a talent passed down through generations in the Skylark family. The melodies she weaves on the strings of her harp are not only enchanting to the ears but carry with them a magical resonance. Her music has the power to evoke emotions, calm turbulent energies, and even enhance the potency of her spells.
