Plot Summary of „Pride and Prejudice”
The story begins with the Bennet family, who have five daughters and live at the Longbourn estate. Mrs. Bennet’s main concern is to marry her daughters well, since the estate will be inherited by their cousin, Mr. Collins.
A wealthy gentleman, Mr. Bingley, arrives in the village and immediately attracts attention. He quickly falls in love with Jane Bennet, the eldest daughter.
At a ball, Elizabeth Bennet meets Bingley’s friend, Mr. Darcy. Darcy appears proud and refuses to dance with Elizabeth, which offends her and sparks her prejudice against him.
Elizabeth befriends the officer George Wickham, who claims that Darcy deprived him of his inheritance. This strengthens Elizabeth’s negative opinion of Darcy.
Meanwhile, Mr. Collins proposes marriage to Elizabeth, but she refuses. He later marries her friend Charlotte Lucas. At the same time, Bingley is persuaded by Darcy and his sisters to abandon Jane, causing pain to the Bennet family.

Plot Summary of „Pride and Prejudice”

Darcy confesses his love to Elizabeth and proposes marriage. Elizabeth rejects him, accusing him of pride and of separating Jane and Bingley. Darcy then writes a letter explaining the truth about Wickham and his motives regarding Bingley.
Elizabeth later visits Pemberley, Darcy’s estate, where she sees him in a new light — kind and generous. She begins to realize that she has been prejudiced. Meanwhile, Lydia Bennet elopes with Wickham, threatening the family’s honor. Darcy secretly arranges their marriage to save the Bennets’ reputation.
Bingley returns and marries Jane. Darcy proposes to Elizabeth again, and this time she accepts. The novel ends with happy marriages and the overcoming of pride and prejudice.
Elizabeth Bennet – The main heroine, whose inner growth is at the center of the novel. She is the second of the five Bennet daughters: intelligent, independent, observant, witty, quick to judge, yet capable of self-criticism. She symbolizes female independence and moral strength.
Mr. Darcy – The male protagonist, whose transformation leads to the happy ending. A wealthy landowner and master of the Pemberley estate. At first reserved and proud, but honest and good-hearted. He undergoes inner change, overcoming his pride.
