Naviance

5 of 22

  • Naviance is Pallotti’s primary college and career planning platform. The counseling office uses Naviance to submit essential application materials directly to colleges and universities, including official transcripts and letters of recommendation.

  • To ensure these documents are submitted correctly, each student must match their Common App account with their Naviance account. If your student has not yet completed this step, the counseling office will work with them to make sure their accounts are properly connected.

Types of Application Platforms

Not all colleges use the same application platform, and it is your students’ responsibility to check which application the college takes. The college will only receive your information if it is sent through the proper application platform.

Common App

  • Used by over 1,200 colleges
  • Allows students to apply to multiple schools with one form

Common Black College Application

  • Streamlined application for over 60 HBCUs
  • One-time $20 fee covers all schools

Direct-to-Institution Applications

  • Some colleges require students to apply directly on their website

College Application Deadlines

  • Early Action: The student applies early and receives an answer earlier than the regular applicant pool. Many schools use 10/15, 11/1 (most common), or 11/15. Check the college site for correct date.
  • Early Decision: The student applies early and receives an answer earlier than the regular applicant pool but is making a firm commitment to attend if accepted. During the application process, the student, parent, and counselor must all sign documentation confirming the student’s commitment to attend if accepted.
  • Regular Decision: The student applies by the regular deadline and receives an answer in the Spring.
  • Rolling Admission: The student applies at any point and receives an answer on a rolling basis.

It is the student’s responsibility to check the due dates for college applications. Due dates can be found on the college’s website, Common App, or Naviance.

Athletic Transcript Release Form

In order for us to send transcripts to college coaches, you need to complete an athletic transcripts release form. The transcript cannot be sent without this form being filled out.

Teacher Recommendation Letters

Students should request teacher recommendation letters by October 15th of their senior year. It is advised that they do so as teachers are writing multiple letters. They will only need up to two letters of recommendation. Many colleges will only accept one letter.

This form is very useful to teachers and counselors when writing letters of recommendation. Please encourage your student to fill this out and return to their counselor as soon as possible as we are currently busy writing letters for all seniors.

How to Pay for College

What is the FAFSA?

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form students complete to apply for college financial aid.
  • Determines eligibility for grants, loans, and work-study.
  • Uses family financial information to calculate the Student Aid Index (SAI), which colleges use when preparing financial aid offers.
  • Available for all students, but priority is given to those who apply early. Complete it as early as possible because some funding is limited. The application typically opens each year on October 1st.
  • More detailed information on how to apply for FAFSA can be found in your blue folders.

Financial Holds

Any issues regarding your financial status with the school, ranging from missed tuition payments, late payments, and even overdue fees or missing equipment that your child signed out but never returned, can result in the school not being able to release your student’s transcripts when applying to college
