A 14mm open end wrench (not included) is required to operate the spreader bolt.

The wrench can be tethered to the MSTJ.

A Ø3mm/1/8” cord can be attached to the stowage clip (not included)

Preparing for First Installation

The spreader bolt is fully collapsed for shipping and may be a little difficult to operate in the kayak right out of the box.

a. Hold the stern (red) side in your left hand.

b. Place the wrench on the spreader bolt and support the other end of the wrench on a firm surface.

c. Grasp the stowage clip on the bow (blue) side and turn bow side away from you about 1/8 of a turn.

a. Hold the bow (blue) side & steady the wrench in your right hand.

b. Grasp the stowage clip on the stern (red) side and turn stern side away from you about 1/8 of a turn.

The spreader bolt is coated in TEF-GEL™ to prevent corrosion, especially in saltwater conditions.

This is a thick paste that may make the operation of the spreader bolt feel a little stiff.

Install the mechanical spare tire jack (MSTJ) in the side jack positions only.

Do not install it in the keel position. Use a hydraulic jack here instead.

A hydraulic jack may be necessary to spread the ribs apart enough to set the MSTJ into the tubes.

Turn MSTJ so that the stowage clips point down and are against the hull as shown.

Push down on wrench to expand spreader bolt.

Push up on wrench to collapse spreader bolt.

Stowage Options

In addition to begin folded and stowed in a bag, the MSTJ can also be clipped to the frame tubes inside the kayak for easy access.
