Move 2 Health Equity Coalition

Move2Health Equity Coalition uses a collective impact model to improve health in the community. We would like to acknowledge that our work and programming takes place on the traditional lands of Monacan and Manahoac communities.

Current focus: Access to healthcare, federal changes, implications about wrap around services and disenrollment

Current focus: Collaboration on access to food through pantries, benefits, and mutual aid. Ongoing project: community fridges & expanding child feeding programs over school breaks.

Current focus: Accessible walking, biking, and public transportation access. This includes changes to roads and collaboration with the city.

Comparisons to the social determinants of health and how we can overlap these to be tangible goals in each action team.

Concerns to keep in mind

• Cultural appropriation & neo-colonial framing (ie Indigenous Okinawan culture and the history of the Ryukyuans)
• Okinawa being home to 31 US military bases (accounting for 70% of all US military bases in Japan)
• Leads in child poverty, single motherhood, infectious disease, murder per capita, consumption of spam & KFC.

• Areas out of alignment with the overall goal of the action teams

• Cost of living, Stress, and Unhealthy diet still impacting non-elite locals (ie Singapore w/ Blue Zone 2.0)
