Biography

Giotto was born in 1276, he died January 8th, 1337.

Giotto was famous for painting. He has made

many pieces of art that are usually figures,

Landscapes, and scenery. His art movement

was during the renaissance, making him a

renaissance artist. Giotto has a natural, earthy

style. He also is known as a pioneer in the art

world.

Scrovegni Chapel Frescoes

This painting was made in 1305. It is based on a real chapel and takes place in Padua, Italy. It was painted at the end of the Medieval period. The Scrovegni Chapel Frescoes seems to be one of Giotto's best masterpieces.

Lamentation

This painting was made in 1306

It shows the angels screaming and

People mourning over the death of christ. Giotto took a break on the byzantine technique in this painting but still used elements of the technique. Realistic feelings on the faces help set Giotto apart from other painters.

Ognissanti Madonna

This painting was made in 1306. It was placed

on the wall of the Ognissanti church. The

painting is stiff Byzantine art. Child Christ and

Madonna are much bigger than the religious

Figures around them because of the hierarchy of

scale.

The crucifixion

This painting was made in 1304.

The scenic painting shows angels flying over people who are crying about Jesus being hung. It takes place in Padua, Italy. Giotto’s other piece ‘Crucifix’ is not to be confused with The Crucifixion.

The mourning of St. Francis

This painting was made in 1325. The painting is scenery and takes place in Florence, Italy. It has earthy tones and shows people mourning over the loss

of St. Francis.
