Python module for Cardano

Cardano for websites (Django/Flask) and not only...

5 of 25

The reason

  1. Python is one of the most popular programming languages.
  2. There’s a number of websites running on top of Python-based frameworks like Django or Flask.
  3. A significant part of them are e-commerce websites or services processing payments in some other way.
  4. There is no actively maintained Python module to help developers build such services with Cardano.

This needed to be fixed!

6 of 25

The objective

The aim of the project is to provide Python developers with a complete solution that would:

  1. Allow for accepting and sending payments in Cardano.
  2. Be API-agnostic and use proper Python design, like:
    1. well-defined classes,
    2. Decimal type for monetary operations (no rounding errors),
    3. proper exception tree.
  3. Be open source.
  4. Offer additional features like staking/unstaking, access to transaction history, key and address calculation, wallet stats, etc..

7 of 25

How is it done?

The Python module in the current form is based upon cardano-wallet API.

However, this is a backend that can be replaced by anything else. The module is forward-compatible with future backends as long as they implement the required API.

The project is being hosted on github and has proper documentation that is only a single release behind the code. Once the Catalyst-funded project concludes, it will be up to date with the offered set of features.

The development will continue. Should some improvements (like smart contracts handling) be very complex, I would apply for another funding.

Current status and links

The project started on March 1st 2021, well before it was decided whether it receives funding.

Current release is 0.5.

There’s only a single release missing to the completion of the funded part of the project, scheduled on May 12th.

Fund4 governance start time still undetermined

  • Pre-dry-run scheduled for tomorrow

  • Next week we can publish a timeline estimation - pending success of dry-runs.

  • Our team is working solely on this deliverable - thank you for your patience.

  • In retrospect - we were too zealous to be inclusive and lowering the threshold was premature.

Fund5 Assessment week 1 was a success

  • 667 blank assessments to be removed.

  • 1027 valid assessments made Fund5 so far.

  • We surpassed the average of 3 assessments per proposal!

13 of 25

Fund5 assessment week 2 has started!

πŸ‘‰ Let’s aim for 5 reviews per proposal!

Community Advisors started their first assessments and also held CA workshop during the last Saturday:

πŸ“Œ If you have the stamina, watch full 2 hour audio/video via https://bit.ly/3xGrShH

πŸ“Œ If you are a CA make sure to check out this CA Tool that helps find under-reviewed proposals

The assessment challenge starts

οΏ½Just do 1 assessment. Quality over quantity.

  1. Find proposals with no assessments or low (less than 5) assessments on cardano.ideascale.com platform.

  • Enhance each idea with your best review to make it the most impactful it can be.

Collective awareness

By gathering feedback the Catalyst eco-system learns what are the most critical parts to improve

We are all a giant sensor array - making sure Cardano governance is heading in the right direction
