World Economic Forum…

Climate change is contributing to more droughts and water shortages on continents around the world.

  • Northern Italy is facing its worst drought in 70 years, and more than 43% of US states are currently experiencing droughts.
  • A new UN report says drought frequency and duration has increased by nearly a third since 2000.

Discussion and Critical Thinking…

  • Now think about how the weather patterns you have graphed affect daily life in Johannesburg and Hawarden.

Consider: agriculture, water supply, and living conditions.

  • Discuss which region is more likely to experience drought and why, based on the data you have examined.

Should humans be allowed to cloud seed?

It's been going on all over the world for decades. Attempts to modify the weather have been conducted for centuries. However, modern cloud seeding dates from the late 1940's, springing from a discovery at the General Electric labs in Schenectady, New York, in 1946.
