Hello!

We are here, at Düzce, in this beautiful place, in order to introduce each other and specify our activities in the “VOCATIONAL-WEB-LEAP: An Open Source e-Learning Platform for Training Vocational Students, Apprentices and Graduates on Web Design and Development” KA2 Erasmus+ innovative project, for which we have the pleasure to be member of the project’s consortium, along with 2 more Greek members, 2 Turkish members, 2 Romanian members, 1 North Macedonia member and 1 Spanish member.

We will all work together for a few months to design and develop 3 eCourses on a Moodle platform for the subject of “Web Design & Development”, targeted to IT students of the Vocational Secondary

School, as follows:

• “Web Design and Development for beginners”, for the 2nd year IT students of Vocational Upper Secondary Schools.

• “Advanced topics for Web Design & Development”, for the 3rd year IT students of Vocational Upper Secondary Schools.

• “More advanced topics in Web Design and Development", for the IT apprentices of Vocational Upper Secondary Schools. This eCourse can also be used by IT VET graduates, IT employees and IT internships.

But now let’s introduce my school, the 2^nd Evening Vocational UPPER Secondary School.

Οur 1st year IT students attend “Web Design and Development” course, 6 hours per week, of the following topics:

PART A (pages 1 to 110)

HTML (exercises from 1 to 16)
CSS (exercises from 7 to 16)
Php (only exercise 12: A webpage with forms, data is transferred on server)
JavaScript (only exercise 16: Custom webpage development)

PART B (pages 111 to 156)

Site management with Wordpress

Material (PART A: 16 exercises, PART B: descriptive way of Wordpress management)�

How our school can help to this project?

Let’s see how our school can help in this project.

Our school has an IT field. According to our curricula of IT Greek Secondary VET field, our IT students attend a 2 year “Web Design and Development” course.

During the first year, IT students attend the course titled “Web Design and Development”, 6 hours per week, of the following topics:

HTML

CSS

Php

JavaScript

Site Management with Wordpress.

I would like to mention that these students have no previous relevant experience.

They start to learn about Web Design and Development based on the above topics.

The educational material is a book titled “Website Design and Development” of 156 pages.

The book consists of two parts.

The first part has to do with html, css, php and javascript theory (pages one to one hundred ten).

Let me show you the fifth page to see the part A content.

We can see that the material has been organized in exercises numbered from one to 16.

The first exercise is a simple webpage. The relevant code has been given, also the relevant theory is given as text

The other exercises are also given in this style.

Html theory is analyzed from exercise one to sixteen.

Css theory is analyzed from exercise seven to sixteen.

Php theory is just mentioned in the twelfth exercise, without details and many examples, in order to develop a webpage with forms and data transferred to a server.

Javascript theory is just mentioned in the sixteenth exercise, without details and many examples, in order to develop a webpage whose content is customized so that it can be viewed on various terminals.

Part B starts at page one hundred eleven. The WordPress is descriped with a linear way, without examples and mini exercises.

The hours the course is taught per week are sufficient.

The corresponding course book has important theory but I think it is not enough for a inexperienced student to learn in depth. I also think that this book does not help a student to study on his own or to revise himself.

Οur 2^nd year IT students attend “Design & development of online application” course , 3 hours per week, of the following topics:

A lot of theory (pages 1 to 121)
A little theory of webpage view technologies (Html, css)
A little theory of client side programming technologies (javascript)
Theory of server programming in PHP (from 153 page)
Xampp description: MySQL (database environment), apache (web server) και phpmyadmin (MySQL management tool) (from 177 page)

How our school can help to this project?

Let’s now see the second year IT students.

According to the typical curricula of IT Greek Secondary VET field, our second IT students attend the “Design and Development of online applications” course, 3 hours per week, of the following topics:

A lot of theory like “Introduction to Software Development”, “System development life cycle”, “Requirement analysis and specification”, and “Design of System Architecture and Software Units”.

A little theory of webpage view technologies (Html, css). This is ok because the students have a lot of experience of html and css from their previous school year.

A little theory of client side programming technologies (javascript). This is not ok because even in this school year students don't learn much about javascript.
Theory of server programming in PHP. PHP programming language is presented, but I think not very analytically. We can open educational material and go to page one hundred fifty three in order to view php programming language description. If we scroll down we see a lot of theory, but I think no content friendly to students.
Description of XAMPP, the free program for various operating systems that creates a local server environment on our computer that can translate PHP programming language and database language data. XAMPP inludes MYSQL (database environment), apache (web server) and phpmyadmin (MySQL management tool). I also think that XAMPP is presented not very analytically. We can scroll down educational material and go to page one hundred seventy seven in order to view xampp description. We again see a lot of theory, but I think no content friendly to students.

In general, the hours the course is taught per week are sufficient.

The corresponding course book has important theory but I think it is not enough for a second year IT student to learn in depth. I also think that this book does not help a student to study on his own or to repeat himself.

What exactly should the content be per year?

eCourse1: Innovative IT VET curriculum titled “Web Design and Development for beginners” (suitable for IT VET beginners - 2nd year IT VET students).
eCourse2: Innovative IT VET curriculum titled “Advanced topics for Web Design and Development” (suitable for 3rd year IT VET students).
eCourse3: Innovative IT VET curriculum titled “More advanced topics for Web Design and Development” (suitable for 4th year VET students , IT graduates, IT employees).

What exactly should the content be per year?

Universities and especially higher education computer science departments are best placed to decide the exact content per year.

Schools can give their official IT curricula per year on web design and development content and focus on the most important per IT secondary VET students.

According of course to the project’s technical report, we have some relative guidelines.

It is necessary to prepare an innovative IT VET curriculum for the "Web Design and Developent" subject, titled “Web Design and Development for beginners”, suitable for IT VET beginners (2rd year IT VET students). Let this be the eCourse1.
It is necessary to prepare an innovative IT VET curriculum for the "Web Design and Developent" subject, titled “Advanced topics for Web Design and Development”, suitable for 3rd year IT VET students. Let this be the eCourse2.
It is necessary to prepare an innovative IT VET curriculum for the "Web Design and Developent" subject, titled “More advanced topics for Web Design and Development”, suitable for 4th year VET students , IT graduates, IT employees. Let this be the eCourse3.

Assessment material is also necessary for each eCourse consisting of 2 great evaluation tests and 1 recursive evaluation test.
