Though universities base admission decisions on Grade 12 final marks, grade 12 second semester midterms are considered for many offers made by universities. Grade 11 final marks are used for early conditional offers.

Dear Guidance Counsellor,
When do the universities see my marks?
Sincerely,
Ahmed
Dear Ahmed,
The TDSB sends data to OUAC four times during the school year:
November 17, 2023 (Demographic data and Grade 11 marks)
February 16, 2024(Semester 1 final)
April 27, 2024 (Semester 2 midterm)
July 4, 2024 (Semester 2 final)
& Twice during the summer (Aug.4 & 31)
OUAC sees the courses you are taking now and what you will be taking next semester.
Sincerely,
Your Guidance Counsellor
Dear Guidance Counsellor,
Do the universities weigh some courses more heavily than other courses?
Sincerely,
Sabrina
Dear Sabrina,
All Grade 12 U/M courses are considered equally regardless of the semester in which they fall.
If you haven’t yet completed a Grade 12 prerequisite course, universities will look at your mark from the Grade 11 course until your Grade 12 mark in that course is completed.
Universities may give you a conditional offer based on those preliminary marks. All offers are conditional upon the completion of the Grade 12 course. The completion of the Grade 12 course must meet the conditions set out in the offer letter.
Sincerely,
Your Guidance Counsellor
Dear Guidance Counsellor,
Do my Grade 11 marks count?
Sincerely,
LeShaun
Dear LeShaun,
Grade 11 marks are always transmitted to OUAC, but it is your Grade 12 marks that determine your admission.
Universities make conditional offers in a number of rounds between January and the end of May.
If a university does not have final marks for your Grade 12 prerequisites at the time of an “offer cycle”, they will look at your Grade 11 marks to see whether they can give you a conditional offer at that point in time..
If your Grade 11 marks are not the strongest, your conditional offer will come out in a future “offer cycle” when the universities have access to Grade 12 midterm or final marks.
Sincerely,
Your Guidance Counsellor
Dear Guidance Counsellor,
I’m really stressed about early acceptance? How do I get early acceptance?
Sincerely,
Mei
Dear Mei,
There is no such thing as early acceptance!
Some people receive early conditional offers. A conditional offer requires terms to be fulfilled before a final offer of admission is confirmed. Those conditions are set out in writing and emailed to you at the time you are given an early conditional offer.
Do not stress. Students receive offers between January and the end of May. Different schools and programs distribute offers at different times.
Sincerely,
Your Guidance Counsellor
Dear Guidance Counsellor,
I’m taking some courses in private school. Will this affect university offers?
Sincerely,
Praveen
Dear Praveen,
Only if you are applying to the Math, Accounting and Engineering Programs at the University of Waterloo will you be asked to explain why you have taken a course outside your regular day school (i.e. private school).
U of Waterloo may adjust (lower) your overall admission score if they believe your private school credit is a shortcut to a higher mark.
Other universities caution students against taking any outside courses for the sole purpose of a high mark. It might seem like a shortcut to get into a university program, but it won’t keep you in the program. For that you need to put in the hard work! With so much tuition money on the line, you want to be prepared.
Sincerely,
Your Guidance Counsellor
