HOW DOES REMOTE LEARNING AFFECT THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS?

  • Over the past decade, remote learning has emerged as a significant educational model, driven largely by advancements in technology and the need for flexible learning environments. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated this shift, making remote learning a central part of the educational experience for many students worldwide.
  • The sudden transition to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted both the potential and the challenges of this educational approach. While some students thrived in a digital learning environment, others faced significant obstacles. Understanding the diverse impacts of remote learning is crucial for developing effective educational strategies that cater to all students.
  • Research by Anderson and colleagues (2021) indicates that remote learning can enhance students' time management skills and independence. However, studies by Brown (2020) and Lee (2021) suggest that remote learning may also lead to decreased student engagement and increased feelings of isolation. This study aims to build on this existing literature by exploring the specific factors that contribute to these varying outcomes.
  • The main problem addressed by this research is the impact of remote learning on students' academic performance. The objectives are to: (1) identify the benefits and challenges associated with remote learning, (2) examine the role of student engagement in remote learning environments, and (3) propose strategies to enhance the effectiveness of remote learning.
  • This study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on remote learning by providing a comprehensive analysis of its impact on student performance. The findings will help educators and policymakers design more effective remote learning programs, ultimately supporting student success and well-being.
  • This research will focus on high school students in urban areas with access to reliable internet and digital devices. Limitations of the study include potential variability in students' home environments and differing levels of digital literacy, which may influence their remote learning experiences.
