General Themes

  • New observations and advanced modeling are allowing us to re-visualize long standing pictures of how the solar wind, magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere are connected, and how solar wind energy is transferred, modified, and dissipated.
  • New understanding is allowing us to break free from potential misconceptions originating from prior terminology and nomenclature that may have constrained and biased our perceptions.
  • Current and future work will focus on energy flow, coupling processes, feedback mechanisms and disentangling temporal and spatial variations (in particular explaining bursts and spikes).
