Overview of Task:

You will need to write an interesting and original narrative based on a Maori or Pacific theme. You will then create a warrior and an appropriate setting to match your story. This needs to be made into a movie. You will need to contrast the hot and cold colours e.g. if your warrior has hot colours, then the background will have cold colours. You will be marked on the quality of your artwork, story and movie.

Main Tasks:

  1. Write an interesting narrative about a Maori or Pacific warrior.
  2. Draw a warrior using hot or cold colours. Draw a detailed background using hot or cold colours.
  3. Your warrior will have cultural based tattoos on his/her body.
  4. Create a short movie about your story using your artwork.

Mini Tasks:

  • View and collect images/artwork of tattoos, cultural themes and backgrounds for ideas
  • Read books about warriors e.g. Maui and the Sun for ideas
  • Brainstorm ideas for a story
  • Create sketches of warrior and background on paper
  • Create warrior and background on Hyperstudio (on separate cards - realistic, detailed and original)

Mini Tasks:

  • Describe your warrior and the setting. Concentrate on the orientation of a story - hook, character, setting, etc
  • Complete story and animation of your warrior
  • Create animated movie with voice over using your story. What message would your warrior share with you if they visited you?
  • Share on blog.

What strengths or weaknesses does your warrior have?

Setting:

Where is the story set? Is it based in a forest in NZ? Is it based in a village on a Pacific Island? Think of what this might of looked like 200 years ago.
