Construction Update

  • The project is on schedule for its August 2019 completion.
  • The roofing is 90% complete. Site concrete work continues with the entry stairs pour, the amphitheater seating in place, and the sidewalks around the building in the final stages. All of the exterior doors and windows have been installed. Interior painting is complete except for touch-up. Restrooms ceramic tile is complete and plumbing fixture installation is on -going. The interim housing portables are in the process of being removed.
  • Upcoming work over the summer months includes completion of the roofs, exterior site work, HVAC, gym flooring, and the bleachers.

Donations

  • Huntington Middle School and the District are extremely grateful to the San Marino Schools Foundation, the Major Donors, especially Avery and Andy Barth, and the Huntington Middle School PTA for the donations pledged and received for the Project.

  • The donors designated their funds specifically for the Barth Athletics Complex.

  • Donations for the project total $4,845,000.

  • The Project Budget remains balanced.

  • Adjustments in revenues based on the timing of State funding, interest earnings, additional donations, developer fee revenues, etc.

  • Expenditure adjustments based on actual and projected costs to complete the project.

Project State Funding Update

  • Due to anticipated delay in the receipt of Proposition 51 State funding, a temporary transfer from the Cash Flow Fund is being used as bridge financing to complete the project until the State funds are received (projected in 2022-23).

  • The District is diligently appealing to the State Office of Public School Construction and State Allocation Board to seek receipt of its approved funding.

  • Governor Newsom has proposed that the State accelerate the sale of Proposition 51 bonds ($1.5B for new construction and modernization, $1.2M for state staffing, and $750M for full-day kindergarten facilities).

Project Accounting Process

  • Meetings are held monthly with the Construction Manager and Accounting to review the project’s budget and cash flow.
  • Expenditures are tracked by the type of expense, the project phase, and all pay applications are approved by the architect, project manager, and the District.
  • The County Office of Education audits the pay application and contractual expenditures before processing payments.
  • The District’s independent auditors perform an annual audit of the project’s revenues and expenditures.

Summary

  • The District is appreciative of the community for their donations to the Barth Athletics Complex Project.
  • The project is on schedule and under budget by $1.1 million.
  • The project is 90% percent completed.
  • Change Orders to-date are 1.2%, and are expected to be no more than 3% in total.
  • The anticipated opening of the new Barth Athletics Complex is planned for August 2019.
  • A grand opening celebration is planned for the community on August 10, 2019.
