CONCUSSIONS - LISTEN UP!
TAKEAWAYS -- TAKE HOME MESSAGE
'4 Concussions and Done with Contact Sports' = MYTH!
LPS Statement (1/17/2019)
"Individual schools within LPS do not have/make rules about an athlete being disqualified from participation in sports (specifically contact sports) based on number of concussions sustained. Our district follows best practice based on current research which states that no two individuals are alike so decisions depend on each individual and situation/incident; not a standard rule that fits all."
Talk with your teens about concussion. Tell them to report their concussion symptoms to you, athletic trainers, and coaches right away. Some athletes think concussions aren’t serious or worry that if they report a concussion they will lose their position on the team or look weak. Remind them that it’s better to miss one or two games the whole season.
THANK YOU!
