‘Cycladic Idols’2800-2300 BC
Before the 3rd millennium BC, the people living on the Cycladic Islands in the Aegean, produced a large number of extraordinary statuettes of mostly female figures. Carved from white, marble in simple forms of a modern appearance (well known as cycladic idols)

We welcomed 2019 with a big cake

We celebrated the carnival by
decorating the Cycladic Head Idol
The pupils of the 2nd Kindergarten N. Artakis asked their eTwinning partners, to reproduce, in any way they prefer, a specific Cycladic Idol (cycladic head).

The pupils of the 2nd Kindergarten N.Artakis, transformed the Cycladic HEAD Idol
The pupils of the 3rd Kindergarten Psachnon, transformed the Cycladic-Head-Idol into a lion, a smiling cat,and a lovely girl in a colourful frame
The pupils of the 1st Kindergarten N. Artakis remade the Cycladic head out of clay
A pupil from the 1st Kindergarten Chalkidas made the cycladic head as an ancient Hellenic woman with black hair and big eyelashes!
The pupils of the 2nd Kindergarten Efkarpias (class1) used threads, temperas & black markers and gave the Cycladic-head-idol amazing colourful shapes!
The pupils of I.C.”Lombardo-Radice Ovidio” Sulmona (AQ) filled the cycladic head with colourful shapes, cut it into stripes & combined them in various ways
The children of FEDAC Salt, in Spain, got inspired & produced cycladic masterpieces of themselves!

Minoan civilization
2nd & 3rd millenium e.g.
The Minoan civilization represents the first advanced civilization in Europe. It gave rise to massive building complexes, tools, sophisticated artwork, seafaring ships and ship building technology, and writing systems, much of which has endured as archaeological treasuresThe Minoan civilization is particularly notable for its large and elaborate palaces, some of which were four stories high, featured elaborate plumbing systems, and were decorated with frescoes
Frescoes are the source of some of the most striking imagery handed down to us from the Minoan civilization of Bronze Age Crete (2000-1500 BCE)
Animals were also commonly portrayed, most often in their natural habitat, for example, monkeys, birds, cats, goats, deer, sea urchins, dolphins and fish.
The room of the queen’s at the Minoan palace of Knossos was embelleshed with dolphins fresco.

we tried to represent the fresco of dolphins cutting fishes and dolphins and sticking them in a big paper.
Then with the help of the other partners who painted various images from the bottom of the sea, we enriched our painting.

3rd kindergarten of Psachna-Evia-Greece
ANCIENT GREEK PAINTINGS ON POTTERY
The famous and distinctive style of Greek vase-painting with figures, reached its peak from about 600 to 350 BC, and divides into the two main styles,of black-figure and red-figure painting. The white ground technique was mostly made for burial.
Black-figure was a popular style in ancient Greece for many years. The black-figure period coincides approximately with the era from the middle to late Archaic, from 620 to 480 BC. The technique black-figure was a Corinthian invention of the 7th century and spread from there to other city states and regions including Sparta, Boeotia,Euboea (Evia), the east Greek islands and Athens.
By the later Archaic and early Classical period the two great commercial powers, Corinth and Athens, exported their pottery all over the Greek world. Pots from Corinth and Athens are found as far afield as Spain and Ukraine and are so common in Italy.

APOLLON & MUSES
Black figured Lekythos
(500-490 BC)
According to the Greek Myths, God Zeus bewildered the young woman Mnemosyne and slept with her for nine consecutive nights. The result of their encounter was the Nine Muses, who were similar to everything.
They were not interested in anything of the regular human everyday life and they wanted to dedicate their lives to the Arts. Apollo brought them to the big and beautiful Mount Elikonas, where the older Temple of Zeus used to be. Ever since, the Muses supported and encouraged creation, enhancing imagination and inspiration of the artists. Nine Muses were: Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomeni, Terpsichore, Erato, Polymnia, Ourania and Calliope.

POMPEII
Pompeii was a large Roman town in the Italian region of Campania which was completely buried in volcanic ash following the eruption of nearby Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE. The town was excavated in the 19th and 20th century CE and due to its excellent state of preservation it has given an invaluable insight into the Roman world and may lay claim to being the richest archaeological site in the world in terms of the sheer volume of data available to scholars.

From “domus Epuliae”in Pompeii, the pupils had choosen “lemon tree fresco”.
This fresco were in the “cubicola” wich were the roman’s bedrooms.
The fresco shows us a garden with a lemon tree’ detail.
The pupils did the lemon tree using seeds and pointillism technique.

The lemon tree from Artakis’ pupils is a mixed technique.

Emporion

Emporion is a city. It is very old, it is two thousand years old. It was built by the Greek and the Roman people
The name “Emporion” is amazing.
It means “market” and it was called this name because it was a commercial city.
There are lots of treasures. And the ruins are important themselves.
But the roman mosaic floors are one of the most important part of the place.
This is a mosaic floor in a domus (in a house). It is two coloured in black and white.
It has a geometrical patrol in black and white and also some pictures from the sea.
Here you can see dolphins and a rudder.
Emporion is very important in Catalonia.
We like Emporion!
We have been working with the presentation of Emporion.
We did our own mosaic from salt pastry and colours.
