1. The Persian Gulf International Airport in Iran had a heat index—real feel with heat and humidity—of 152°F. This is incompatible with human life.

• Rome, Italy broke its all-time heat record, clocking in at 109.2°F, beating its old record by nearly 4°F.

​

• The temperature in Sanbao, China hit 126°F, beating its old record by nearly 3°F. That’s not the heat index, that’s the real temperature. It was the hottest temperature ever recorded north of 40° latitude. It lies at about the same latitude as Philadelphia.

​

• Death Valley just had the hottest midnight on record. The temperature was 120°F between midnight and 1am. New record.

​

• People are literally burning their skins off in Arizona. Burn units at hospitals in Arizona are filling up from victims who are touching surfaces that are as hot as 180°F.

​

• Phoenix will become the first major American city to average over 100°F for an entire month. It had 29 consecutive days at 110°F or more. It also didn’t drop below 90°F for 12 days in a row, even at night.

​

• Heat killed a man in Death Valley in California. The paramedic helicopter was unable to respond to the emergency because it was too hot for it to attain enough lift to fly.

​

• The ocean is boiling off the coast of Florida and in the Caribbean. Four days ago, Coral Restoration Foundation visited a coral reef restoration site that they’ve been working on for more than a decade. They said, “We have lost almost all the corals.” And it’s not even the hottest part of the summer yet.

​

• The Sixth Mass Extinction event is worse than we thought, as reported this week. Of the 150,300 species tracked by the IUCN, 28% are facing extinction. (actual study)
