My name is Paul Ellis. When I worked at Manhattanville College, I ran the Westchester Area Math Circle (westchestermath.org). I grew it from a single weekly meeting to 3 classes a week, where the participants teach most of the classes, and contest teams compete all over the US. I am very proud that it has flourished even more in my absence. To see something that I built stand on its own fills me with joy.
Two colleagues and I published a book of math circle topics with Maria, who graciously invited me to be here today.
I have worked on many other math outreach projects:
- I was the lead teacher at a summer camp in Beijing, China
- I developed and taught a course for Math-M-Addicts
- I was the program director at Rutgers Math Corps
- I am now launching the Rutgers Math Circle
I have been less active during the last few years, due to another project, which is shown in the picture. I have learned more about math pedagogy from working on this project, as well.
My official title is Teaching Professor at Rutgers University. My personal email is paulellis@paulellis.org
