What is Pollution? (The Brief Overview)

  • “Pollution is the process of making land, water, air or other parts of the environment dirty and not safe or suitable to use.”-livescience.com

  • Pollution is one of the biggest global killers, affecting over 100 million people.

  • The world generates 2.01 billion tons of municipal solid waste annually, with at least 33 percent of that—extremely conservatively—not managed in an environmentally safe manner.

  • When people litter or pollute the environment, it has detrimental effects and contributes to pollution.

Personal Experience

It was a hot summer day, and I was walking back home. It was then when I saw someone carelessly throw a water bottle onto the ground, along with their cigarette butt. I was infuriated that someone could just easily kill our planet and not even realize it! That day, I reflected on the many other individuals that could so recklessly litter and pollute the environment. One act, one person- changes and negatively impacts our one world. How would we be able to change this?

The Solution

7 of 14

What’s the solution to pollution?

We plan on creating robots that have many different abilities.

These robots will,

  • Reduce the pollution on our earth, picking up trash piece by piece.
  • Have the ability to talk to citizens and assist them throughout the day, for example, (if they’re lost and are in need of help.)
  • Have different wheel settings which allow them to go through different terrains, such as snow, grass and other extreme weather conditions, allowing them to clean to their fullest potential.
  • Have motion sensors to avoid running into living things.
  • Be global and can speak different languages.

  • “Is this robot people-friendly?”
  • “Will it accidentally run over me?”
  • “How will this robot be efficient at solving pollution?”
  • “WILL IT MALFUNCTION AND RULE THE WORLD?”
  • “What would it be powered on to reduce pollution?”
  • “What makes this different from other cleaning robots?”

  • This robot is 100% people-friendly. Whenever a human approaches them, they’ll talk to them like an everyday person. If they are struggling, the robot will comfort them. They also have an iPad sort of device so people can ask for directions or find their way home.
  • No, it will not run over you. It has motion-like sensors which sense humans so they don’t run over them.
  • It’s purpose is to clean up trash all around the world so people can live in a safe, clean, and happy environment.
  • No, it won’t malfunction and rule the world. This is because the robot is programmed to just clean up trash and communicate with civilians. If a problem does occur, there is an eject button on the robot that, when pressed, allows the robot to shut down. Then a techie from our global company will come and fix the robot.
  • To reduce pollution, BetterBots are programmed to utilize their resources to the fullest potential. As the robots pick up trash, they will also be able to use that trash to fuel themself. It’s a win-win for the environment, and the robot equally.
  • Other cleaning robots are mainly limited to cleaning homes while our robots clean the world. Our robots are inclusive and accessible to the environment and to all the people who dwell in it.

If we implement this idea, there will be possibilities of change and growth. If this idea is utilized, we’re taking another step forward to help the world as a whole. Just imagine looking out your window and seeing one of our bots cleaning trash. Wouldn’t that make you feel reassured? Given the fact that there’s an active helper keeping YOUR community clean?
